  2. Background • NICE Improving Outcomes Guidance led to setting up of specialist centres e.g. urology, gynaecology • No planning / recognition to changes required to staffing levels / skill mix on wards where extra specialist work was being carried out

  3. Objectives • Examine the impact of re-configuration of cancer services has had on nursing in relation to skill mix and staffing levels • The use of a patient dependency tool will facilitate appropriate manpower planning to provide necessary care for patients undergoing specialist cancer treatment

  4. Anticipated Activities • Scope existing formulae for skill mix levels across MCCN • Comprehensive review of available tools • Test functionality of preferred tools on PDSA cycle

  5. Anticipated Outcome To produce a written report that • Evidences the necessity for the adoption of a Network agreed patient dependency tool • Compares and contrasts existing patient dependency tools • Recommends a tool for adoption • Outlines a Project Plan for phase 2: spread and sustainability
