Science & Technology (ST) Goal ST1 – Create an international system safety network that focuses on bringing the connectivity to the latest technological developments and how they will affect system safety. • Society membership increased by 20% over previous year • Established new international chapter in Eastern Canada • Continued support by the Safety-critical Systems Club (U.K.) • for ISSC • Jointly hosted the 21st International System Safety Conference (Providence, RI) • with the Navy’s Weapon System Safety Symposium • Attendees represented various nationalities and industries • Topics included broad variety of subject matter (aerospace, aviation, mass transit, nuclear, automotive, national defense, etc.)

Information (IN) Goal IN1 – Create a 24 hour, on-demand system safety information resource. • Created web space on society site for: • ISSC conference use • Society chapters use (10MB per chapter) • JSS and eJSS use • Created “Recent Updates” page on website • Upgraded society server space to 800MB • Created past conference presentations archive page

Information (IN) Goal IN2 – Improve HQ response to customer needs. • Member Services developed implemented a strategic plan to sustain and grow both individual and corporate membership • Member Services contacted 60 former members to determine cause for dropped membership • Incorporated new policy and flexible price structure for corporate members

Education (ED) Goal ED1 – Integrate the products of the S&T and Information branches to create the knowledge base and capability to enable our customers to develop the best design solutions for their customers’ system, product or process safety problems. • Added database report of Safety related courses and focus groups to the society website • Developed draft system safety common practice for review by EC • Developed a “roadmap” for professional development as an initial step toward the promotion of increased safety certification

Education Goal ED2 – Provide professional development opportunities for the members. • 2003 International System Safety Conference (Ottawa, Canada) • 1st conference conducted outside U.S.A. • Very successful conference • 2004 International System Safety Conference (Providence, R.I.) • Includes track sponsored by Navy’s Weapon System Symposium

Education Goal ED3 – Increase national and international influence. • Cooperative involvement with technical organizations • Interagency Risk Management Working Group • American Industrial Hygiene Association • Reliability and Maintainability Society • International Council of Systems Engineering • American Society of Safety Engineers • International involvement • 3rd Bieleschweig Workshop • Rail Automation Conference • Representation on Safety Boards/Committees • Board of Certified Safety Professionals • G-48 Committee

  9. Education Goal ED4 – Institutionalize continuous improvement program. • Generated Society Officer Calendar • Review of society insurance coverage
