Enhancing Biodiversity Data Publishing: The GBIF-Pensoft Collaboration

The partnership between the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and Pensoft highlights innovative strategies for improved biodiversity data publishing. This collaboration addresses the challenges of low uptake in open data sharing, which often leads to data loss. A novel solution is the Data Paper, a publication that provides a citable format for dataset descriptions. These papers are integrated with metadata based on Ecological Metadata Language (EML) and foster accountability and awareness in the scholarly community. Through this initiative, the aim is to amplify the impact of biodiversity data and promote better research practices.
