  5. 1901 Anthony Lucas struck oil in Spindeltop. (Just outside of Beaumont). • Oil flowed well for 9 days and produced over 100,000 barrels a day. • Beaumont becomes a “Boomtown.” “Black Gold”

Houston becomes the center of the oil industry in Texas. • In 1925 The Houston Ship Channel Opens connecting Houston to the Gulf of Mexico. • Demand for Oil skyrockets. • To create Derricks the Lumber business boom. • 500 new oil companies open, Texaco is one of them.
