READ: NEHEMIAH 4:1-3 1 So it happened, when Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, that he was furious and very indignant, and mocked the Jews. 2 He spoke before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, "What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they fortify themselves? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they complete it in a day? Will they revive the stones from the heaps of rubbish-- stones that are burned?“ 3 Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and he said, "Whatever they build, if even a fox goes up on it, he will break down their stone wall."

READ: NEHEMIAH 4:4-6 4 Hear, O our God, for we are despised; turn their reproach on their own heads, and give them as plunder to a land of captivity! 5 Do not cover their iniquity, and do not let their sin be blotted out from before You; for they have provoked You to anger before the builders. 6 So we built the wall, and the entire wall was joined together up to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.

READ: MATTHEW 5:43-45 43 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44 "But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 "that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. READ: NEHEMIAH 4:10-12 10 Then Judah said, "The strength of the laborers is failing, and there is so much rubbish that we are not able to build the wall." 11 And our adversaries said, "They will neither know nor see anything, till we come into their midst and kill them and cause the work to cease." 12 So it was, when the Jews who dwelt near them came, that they told us ten times, "From whatever place you turn, they will be upon us."

WHO WERE ‘THE JEWS WHO DWELT NEAR THEM’? WHAT IS ‘THEY TOLD US TEN TIMES’? REPEATEDLY? WHAT DID THEY SAY? WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

READ: NEHEMIAH 4:13-15 13 Therefore I positioned men behind the lower parts of the wall, at the openings; and I set the people according to their families, with their swords, their spears, and their bows. 14 I looked, and arose and said to the nobles, to the leaders, and to the rest of the people, "Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, great and awesome, and fight for your brethren, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your houses." 15 It happened, when our enemies heard that it was known to us, and that God had brought their plot to nothing, that all of us returned to the wall, everyone to his work.

WHAT WAS MADE KNOWN TO THE JEWS? WHAT HAD GOD DONE CONCERNING THEIR PLOT? HOW DID THE JEWS RESPOND TO THIS?

And the one who sounded the trumpet was beside me.

Our God will fight for us.“ 21 So we labored in the work, and half of the men held the spears from daybreak until the stars appeared.

  30. QUESTIONS: NEHEMIAH 4:19-21 WHO WILL BLOW THE TRUMPET? WHY? READ: EZEKIEL 33:2-5 2 "Son of man, speak to the children of your people, and say to them: 'When I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from their territory and make him their watchman, 3 ‘When he sees the sword coming upon the land, if he blows the trumpet and warns the people, 4 ‘Then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be on his own head. 5 'He heard the sound of the trumpet, but did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But he who takes warning will save his life. (NKJ)
