POSAT —FIITJEE’s Brilliant Initiative to Make Online Exams Cheat-Proof The Covid-19 pandemic brought revolutionary changes in our life, as it not only promoted work- from-home culture but even students were forced to study from home with schools and colleges being completely closed for months. To help students continue with their studies, schools, colleges, and coaching institutes have to come up with innovative ways that will allow them to continue with their academic growth. As far as teaching and taking classes were concerned educational institutions managed it pretty well in the online mode but conducting online exams was a real challenge for the schools and educational institutes. The biggest problem faced by them was preventing students from cheating on online exams. To overcome this problem FIITJEE developed a one-of-its-kind Proctored Online Scholarship cum Admission Test or POSAT for students who were preparing for JEE. FIITJEE conducted the first POSAT on August 2, 2020, which students took from their homes. It was the first online proctored scholarship cum admission test that was made cheat-proof using artificial intelligence technology. This latest initiative of FIITJEE brought proctoring or online invigilation to a whole new level, as this home-based proctored test’s technology was designed to be completely cheat-proof. This test is regarded as a paradigm shift in Indian education as FIITJEE has quickly adapted to the situation and come out with an innovative online test

2. procedure. FIITJEE has tied up with EdFora, an EdTech company to look after the technology needs of the proctored test. POSAT Procedure FIITJEE conducted Mock tests to get their students accustomed to POSAT so that they can comfortably take the actual test without any inconvenience. The best thing is that this testing system also works on low internet bandwidths without affecting the student’s test-taking experience. FIITJEE first pilot-tested this exam pattern with around 25,000 students and its technology seems fine. The FIITJEE’s home-based proctored test follows a three-tier proctoring system comprising Artificial Intelligence proctoring. The three-step proctoring system procedure is as follows: · The first step of AI proctoring starts with the ID match that is carried out with the AI face recognition process in which students’ photos captured with the help of desktop or laptop cameras are matched with the students’ photos stored in the institute’s database. · In the second step, a live human proctor supervises students exactly as a teacher supervises in an offline examination. Students’ live visuals are sent to the proctor’s account, as he/she is responsible to monitor ten students at a time. The entire test is recorded as well as click trends are documented. If any student is doubted of any suspicious activity, then warnings will be generated with the support of AI technology and will be sent to the live proctor through text messages. The AI proctor can quickly identify the student’s face, can perform an environment check of the room, and detects several faces, books, mobiles, as well as suspicious browser activity. Any suspicious activity can be detected even if someone is trying to dictate an answer to the student. · In the third and final step, the human proctor carries out the post-test review by watching the recordings and re-checking them for any suspicious activities and discrepancies. After minutely going through the test recording the human proctor will accordingly mark the students.
