  1. Natural Gas Dehydration

  2. Overview • Dehydration of natural gas is removal of the water that is associated • with natural gases in vapor form • When produced from a reservoir, natural gas usually contains a large • amount of water and is generally fully saturated Water dew point. This water • can cause many problems for downstream processes and equipment. • The natural gas industry has recognized that dehydration is • necessary to ensure smooth operation of gas transmission lines. www.finepacindia.in

  3. Reasons For Gas Dehydration • The purpose of the gas dehydration is to remove water from natural gas and natural gas liquids. When produced in a storage tank, natural gas usually contains large quantities of water and is generally fully saturated or saturated at the water dew point. • Reduces heating value • Create gas hydrates • Create corrosion www.finepacindia.in

  4. Three Methods Of Dehydration Absorption:- The most widely-used method for industrial dehydration of NG is absorption. Absorption is usually performed using Triethylene glycol  sorbent (TEG). Absorption proceeds at low Natural Gas Dehydration 5 temperatures and the absorbed water is boiled out from TEG during regeneration in a reboiler at high temperatures. Adsorption:- The second dehydration method is the adsorption of water by the solid desiccant. In this method, water is usually adsorbed on the molar, silica gel or alumina. Condensation:- A third conventional dehydration method utilizes gas cooling to convert the water molecules into a liquid phase, which is then removed from the stream. Natural gas liquids and condensed hydrocarbons can also be recovered from NG by cooling. www.finepacindia.in

  5. Gas Processing Systems Gas dehydration is an important process in gas treatment. The produced gas is saturated with water, which must be removed.  Failure to do so may cause problems such as corrosion, condensation and plugs from ice or gas hydrates. Other contaminants such as H2S, CO2 and mercaptans should also be removed. Gas treatment systems like dehydration and gas sweetening removes these impurities and makes the gas suitable for transportation and further use. www.finepacindia.in

  7. Reasons For Using TEG • TEG is more easily regenerated • TEG has a higher decomposition temperature of 404°F while DEG • Is 328°F. • Vaporization losses are less then MEG and DEG • TEG is not too viscous above 70°F. www.finepacindia.in

  8. Advantage Of Glycol Dehydration • Lower installation cost • Enhances operational versatility • Glycol dehydration is continuous rather than batch. • Glycol makeup is easily accomplished. • Glycol units require less regeneration heat per pound of water • removed. www.finepacindia.in
