  2. LAST WEEK INVOCATION SPEAKER – May 18th Dr. John Wise, Duval County Superintendent of Schools, was the featured speaker at this week’s meeting.  Dr. Wise outlined the aggressive new plans he has for our local schools.  He mentioned a 9th grade keystone project for each student, to encourage them to get more deeply involved in subjects of their liking, and a final capstone project to show the depth and breadth of their learning leading up to graduation.  One of his main philosophical points was the notion of giving teachers and all of the lower levels of the education hierarchy, freedom to be more creative.  He is determined that our young folks be prepared to compete successfully in the global competition. -Butch Shadwell Heavenly Father: Let us not ignore the hurts of the world. Increase our concern and compassion and send us forth to serve those near to home and far away. And now bless this food to our use and us to Your service. Amen From: “Invocations for Kiwanis Occasions” by James J. Muench  MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
