Shipping and Climate Change • With current bunker prices and ship capacity shipowners have strong motivation to reduce emissions! • IMO EEDI is a KEY stepping stone with concrete impact • EU would like to see regional measure BUT • It would be impractical • Not effectively address CO2 reduction • Evasion will be easy • Therefore other alternatives should be found… • EEDI+ on multiregional approach • Bunker levy – at a global level (IMO)

Sulphur • Serious challenge for the short sea shipping sector • Partnership for Cleaner Shipping together with the Environmental Protection Agency • Strategic partnership to develop a toolbox of different solutions in order to comply with the 2015 regulation • LNG, scrubber • Financial support via EU funding • Identification of specific routes in danger of being closed • Possible equivalence via 0-sum solutions
