  3. Country Focus: the How Governance & Collaboration The APF country focus process in Uganda is coordinated by SNV Uganda with support from the APF secretariat and Wageningen UR – CDI. As much as possible, linkages between the different action themes in the network shall be established as to create synergies. In addition, the network will actively look for other stakeholders (government, private sector) to draw into this country focus.

Current status and planning • Policy (PELUM): • Stakeholder and policies mapping is finished • Information sharing on related issues • Conduct policy research, produce policy briefs on farmer entrepreneurship (financial services, DSIP, National development plan, Market information services related policies, land); linking with ESFIM research consultant for policy research • Share findings with the APF country platform and other stakeholders. (1 – 2 day stakeholders workshop) Quarter 4 2010 • Make formal contacts with relevant government agencies/ministries for the necessary dialogues, lobby meetings with policy makers (2011)

Current status and planning • Financial services (VECO): • Priority setting for the group (inventory?) after new start with leadership of Veco/Cordaid • Group merging together with Veco/Cordaid group • Farming services (BRAC): • Identify gap in rice VC, topics for improvement of farming services • Possible taking up other commodity/VC (staple food) • Draft TOR to be finished

Current status and planning • Farming as a business (farming organisations) NUCAFE/AGRITERRA • TOR finalized • Call for cases; good practices on farming organisations for business and their support systems ( 12 cases submitted) • Review committee currently being installed • Linking with Makarere University (Business Minds) • Sharing in workshop (Dec 2010)

  9. Current status and planning Market access and information (FIT Uganda) - Working group with “external members”; Grameen, EAGC, AB Trust, Ssemwanga) • Outcomes of MI symposium 1. Working group, extra participants, local partner (commitment, complementary on daily practice) 2. Participation (2 days, 150 people) 3. Mandate for broader forum (incl. government) 4. Working group broader (MSP?) working on validation/standards of MI (public/private good), directory (who and how’s) 5. Linking with financial services 6. Linking with ICT (final mile to the end-user) 7. Energy/experienced used for cross-fertilisation • Standardisation of MI (policy/advocacy)

Current status and planning • Gender and Value Chain • In collaboration with Oxfam Novib; gender and VC event (sharing experiences and how to incorporate it within network) • To set agenda for Gender and VC within APF Uganda • Food security • Currently ZOA, ICCO, Oxfam Novib are working on how to incorporate, which partners? Which themes, which activities? • Country strategy agreement • Ultimate revision of agreement and budget
