  1. #1 – 7 Odd A charge of 12 μC, traveling with a speed of 9.0 x 106 m/s in a direction perpendicular to a magnetic field, experiences a magnetic force of 8.7 x 10-3 N. What is the magnitude of the field? A charge of q1 = 25.0 μC moves with a speed of 4.50 x 103 m/s perpendicular to a uniform magnetic field. The charge experiences a magnetic force of 7.31 x 10-3 N. A second charge q2 = 5.0 μC travels at an angle of 40.0o with respect to the same magnetic field and experiences a 1.90 x 10-3 N force. Determine the magnitude of the magnetic field and the speed of q2.

  2. #1 – 7 Odd At a certain location, the horizontal component of the earth’s magnetic field is 2.5 x 10-5 T, due north. A proton moves eastward with just the right speed, so the magnetic force on it balances its weight. Find the speed of the proton. An electron is moving through a magnetic field whose magnitude is 8.70 x 10-4 T. The electron experiences only a magnetic force and has an acceleration of magnitude 3.50 x 1014 m/s2. At a certain instant, it has a speed of 6.80 x 106 m/s. Determine the angle θ (less than 90o) between the electron’s velocity and the magnetic field.
