  10. Agenda • Which way should I go ? • Enroute considerations • Which airport at Las Vegas ? • What to see once I’m there ? • Questions

  11. Weather considerations • Icing • Altitude, IFR • Winds • Mountains • Up / down drafts • Turbulence • Time of day • Night • Lack of horizon • Spectacular view of the “Strip”

  12. Fuel planning • Fuel adds weight, and you’ve got hills to climb … • Smaller planes are at the limit • Consider stopping in Bakersfield (KBFL) beforeor General Fox (GWF) after the Tehachapis • You’ll need to get some for the trip home • Hint : LAS is *NOT* the place to buy it !

  13. Agenda • Which way should I go ? • Enroute considerations • Which airport at Las Vegas ? • What to see once I’m there ? • Questions

  14. Where to go ? • McCarran - KLAS • Henderson - KHND • North Las Vegas - KVGT

  15. Where are all these places ?

  16. KLAS - McCarran

  17. Approaching KLAS • APCH will vector over KHND, and the to approach end of runways 25L/R at 4500‘ (not lower!!).  • Hint – load this waypoint into your GPS (N36 04.4, W115 11.8)] • Visually the LUXOR (pyramid shaped hotel) is directly at the other end of 25L/R and has a large light beam. • Depart heading 010 – i.e. downwind for 19R/L.  • Be careful to follow all instructions, especially if they're busy.  • If you are given 19R, make sure you land on the Runway. There is a taxiway that is as large as the runway

  18. Ramp @ KLAS

  19. Other comments • The two FBOs are on the west side of the airport • They'll waive the expensive parking fee if you purchase enough of their expensive avgas.  • Pay attention to ATC and do what you’re told.  • Get familiar yourself with the landmarks noted on the chart, as they may use them and they don't have much free time for step-by-step instructions. • You’ll need a clearance before you call ground to taxi out – “B” airport …

  20. Where to go ? • McCarran - KLAS • Henderson - KHND • North Las Vegas - KVGT

  21. Where are all these places ?

  22. KHND - Henderson • 11 Miles S of Las Vegas • No “B” Clearance required • No IFR approaches (except visual) • Towered field • 5000’ & 6500’ Runways • $5/night tiedown • Fuel is cheaper than LAS • Enterprise rental cars • Taxis AVBL
