  2. Substance Abuse • Adverse health effects • Adverse effect of the drugs themselves. • Adverse effect of the mode of ingestion. • Adverse effect of the degraded lifestyle of problem users.

  3. Addiction • Addiction is the feeling of a powerful urge to take some pleasurable action.

  4. Alcohol abuse • Is the use of alcoholic beverages to excess, either on individual occasions (binge drinking) or as regular practice.

  5. Alcohol Abuse Studies have shown that one out of ever four children in America are exposed to alcohol abuse or dependence in there families before they are eighteen years old.

  6. Alcohol Abuse The risk that teens will drink and get drunk increases sharply if they are highly stressed frequently or they have a substantial amount of spending money.

  7. Drug abuse • Marijuana is the most abused drug. • Marijuana is a illegal drug. • There is only one reason you can smoke marijuana is for medical reasons.

  8. Drug abuse The reason people use marijuana to escape of filling of worthlessness and hopelessness.

  9. Tobacco Abuse • Tobacco is a plant that when smoked or chewed it releases a chemical that gives the body a short term feeling of pleasure.

  10. Tobacco Abuse Nicotine is the chemical in tobacco that gives the short term of pleasure.

  11. Tobacco Abuse One form of tobacco is know as smokeless tobacco or chewing tobacco. A small amount of tobacco is put between the lip and gum and gives the same effected as smoking.

  12. Physical signs of abuse and addition • Cycles of increased energy, restlessness, and inability to sleep. • Sudden lose or gain of weight, changing of clothing, severe dental problems.

  13. Mental sign of abuse and addiction • Cycles of being unusually talkative cheerful and with seemingly boundless energy. • Increased irritability • Unusual calmness • Depression • Paranoia • Hallucinations

  14. Effects on the brain • Dopamine is the chemical the is relisted during pleasurable activities. • When drugs inter the system the dopamine is flooded to the brain witch increase a better high.

  15. Substance abuse in the family • Substance abuse effects not only the user but the family as well. • Child abuse and neglect is common when there is a drug abuser in the family. • The substance abuse increases violence and risk of getting in a car accident.
