Newton's First Law

2. Newton's First Law. Forces acting on an object cannot be added. A moving object will stop if no forces act on it. 2. Newton's First Law. 2. Newton's First Law. What is Newton’s first law of motion? How is motion related to balanced and unbalanced forces?

  1. 2 Newton's First Law

  2. Forces acting on an object cannot be added. • A moving object will stop if no forces act on it. • 2 • Newton's First Law

  3. 2 Newton's First Law What is Newton’s first law of motion? How is motion related to balanced and unbalanced forces? What effect does inertia have on the motion of an object?

  4. net force • balanced forces • unbalanced forces • Newton’s first law of motion • inertia • 2 • Newton's First Law

  5. 2 Newton's First Law How Fast? Look at the photo at the beginning of the lesson. When you hear the word cheetah, you might think of how fast a cheetah can run. As the fastest land animal on Earth, it can reach a speed of 30 m/s for a short period of time. Other than how fast it runs, how might you describe the motion of a cheetah?

  6. 2 Newton's First Law

  7. Forces acting on an object cannot be added. 2 Newton's First Law Disagree. Forces can be added. The net force is the combination of all the forces on an object.

  8. A moving object will stop if no forces act on it. 2 Newton's First Law Disagree. If no forces are applied to a moving object, the object will continue to move at the same speed and in the same direction.

  9. What is Newton’s first law of motion? 2 Newton's First Law If the net force on an object is zero, an object at rest will remain at rest and a moving object will continue moving in a straight line with constant speed.

  10. How is motion related to balanced and unbalanced forces? 2 Newton's First Law Balanced forces do not change the motion of an object; unbalanced forces do.

  11. What effect does inertia have on the motion of an object? 2 Newton's First Law Because of inertia, an object will resist a change in motion.
