The KEY • to learning is REPETITION! • www.mywealthspa.com • Needham, Simon S. “Archery: The Art of Repetion, Crowood Press, October 1, 2006
The Learning Process • It begins BEFORE you come to class! • Student Expectations • Learning starts during class • Learning happens the first time around • Reality • Lectures should guide and reinforce • Class is the BEST time for questions, clear misunderstandings
How can I maximize repetitions? • The biggest impact: • How you read! • The Reading Process • Different methods for different books
Reading a Textbook Chapter • 1) Do not read! • Examine all figures, tables, diagrams – attempt to understand the message of each. • 2) Do not read! • Examine all headings and subheadings – what do you think each section is about? Write it down. • 3) NOW READ • Refer back to figures, tables, diagrams when necessary – sometimes you may not have to! • 4) If you didn’t understand something • Write it down and ask a question during class!
Using this method • 1) Chapter reading will take LESS time! • 2) You will have THREE exposures (repetitions) to the material BEFORE you even come to class.
After lecture…. • Formulate questions on things that are still unclear. • Get tutoring • Ask questions to instructor (email, verbal, etc.) • Review material DAILY, not just one time before an exam • Keep flashcards in your pocket - review any chance you get (standing in lines, etc.) • Yes, you will look like a NERD – but that’s ok. • wordpress.com
