  1. We must leave precious things to follow Jesus.

  2. Matthew 4:18-22

  3. We must leave precious things to follow Jesus.

  4. The process of following Jesus is one of self-denial. • Lk9:23-24. • “Those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires” (Gal 5:24).

  5. We must leave our jobs. • Jesus is to be more important than work. • The midwives in Egypt (Ex 1). • Zacchaeus (Lk 19:1-10). • How do we put this into practice? • We take Christianity to work with us. • “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matt 6:33). • Matt 22:37-38. • How? • We don’t violate God’s will for work. • We work to the best of our ability. • “Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men” (Col 3:23). • We treat everyone with respect and dignity.

  6. We must leave our money. • Hell will be full of people who could not separate themselves from money. • The rich young ruler. • “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon” (Matt 6:24). • “The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows” (1 Tim 6:10). • How? • Generosity.

  7. We must leave our family. • Jesus calls us to such discipleship. • “He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me” (Matt 10:37). • “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple” (Lk14:26). • How do we put this into practice?

  8. If we really understood “We must leave precious things to follow Jesus,” I believe our lives would be radically different.
