  1. Registration For Rising Eighth Graders 2018/2019 Presented by Meadowlark Middle School Student Services

  2. Before we begin, you will need: • A pencil • Your registration card from your teacher • Registration papers

  3. Each of you should have: • Your green registration card • “Your Guide To Middle School” booklet (White) • Letter to Parents/ Registration Checklist (Pink) • If you do not have all of these items, raise your hand.

  4. Look at the pink sheet that begins with “Dear Parent or Guardian”. If you would like to request a course change for math, you must fill out the Math Course Change Request form at the bottom of this page, and staple it to your registration card. See the next slide.

  5. Now look at the other side of the pink sheet, the side titled, “Middle School Registration Parent/Student Checklist”. Registration is a two part process. First you will fill out the registration card, and then you must register online. Please use this checklist to ensure that you have completed both parts of registration. See the next slide.

  6. MIDDLE SCHOOL REGISTRATION PARENT/STUDENT CHECKLIST PART 1: Registration Card ____ Review packet of materials ____Complete Student Information Section of registration card ____Select Encore courses on the back of the card (Rank order #1-6) ____Use form (pink) to indicate requested course assignment changes for Math (do not change on card) ____Sign Card PART 2: Online Registration (Window open 4/10-4/13) ____Use your student’s (not yours) PS password to go into Powerschool (NCEd Cloud…NOT Haiku!) ____Follow instructions on the website (WSFCS>Parents/Community>PowerSchool Middle School Online Registration) ____Note** you do NOT HAVE TO “CLAIM” the account IMPORTANT!!! When you go into course registration you will already see CORE courses for next year. HOWEVER, the Math and the LA level MAY NOT BE CORRECT. Do not worry about this. This was done on purpose and we will go back and make adjustments at a later date. ____What you enter for your encore courses on the computer MUST MATCH what is on the card. IMPORTANT!!! Encore courses WILL NOT show up in order. We will use your cards for this purpose if needed. ____Online Registration will lock at 9 PM on Friday, April 13rd!! ____If you need help accessing PS, have your student come to the Student Services Office and we will assist them with entering their courses. (336-703-4230) **Complete online registration and return actual card to your Homeroom Teacher NO LATER THAN APRIL 13!!** NO LATER THAN APRIL 13!!!

  7. Look at the front of your registration card (green). Before returning your card, please complete all information on the front of the card. The next slide is an example of the registration card. The highlighted areas are to be completed.

  8. Now turn to the back (side two) of your registration card.On the top of side two of your card, on the “School:” line, write: Due Date: Friday, APRIL 13, 2018 See the next slide.

  9. Also on side two (in the top right corner) is a line that says School__________ On this line, write: Due Friday, April 13 See the next slide.

  11. We will now go through a process of elimination so that you can choose your Encore courses for next year. After eliminating the courses you may NOT take, you and your parents may make your selections from the remaining courses .

  12. If you have never taken Chorus, mark out (eliminate) Advanced Chorus. See the next slide.

  13. IMPORTANT: If you have Band or Orchestra this year and choose to continue, remember that they meet every day and you will need to number your choices for Band or Orchestra as #2 AND #3

  14. If you are NOT in Orchestra this year, you may NOT take Orchestra next year. Therefore, mark out (eliminate) Advanced Orchestra. See the next slide.

  15. If you are NOT in Band this year, you may NOT take Band next year. Therefore, mark out (eliminate) Advanced Band. See the next slide.

  16. If you have never taken Art, eliminate Advanced Visual Arts. See the next slide.

  17. IMPORTANT If you want to take Visual Arts next year, but are NOT in Art this year, write in Intermediate Visual Arts in the space below Advanced Visual Arts. See the next slide.

  18. Now look at the foreign language courses, in the middle column of courses. Mark out (eliminate) Spanish Heritage 1. This course is not offered at MMS. See the next slide.

  19. If you are not taking French this year, mark out (eliminate) French I (HS Credit). See the next slide.

  20. If you are not taking Spanish this year, mark out (eliminate) Spanish I (HS Credit). See the next slide.

  21. If you are not taking either French or Spanish this year, your card should look like the next slide.

  22. The fourth course listed is for students who have never taken a foreign language and want to explore many different languages Exploratory Language 8, is described on page four of the “Your Guide To Middle School” booklet titled: World Language 8. (listed on the card as Exploratory Language 8) Anyone may take this course.

  23. Now look at the last column. If you took Computer Skills & Applications P1 this year or in 6th grade, mark out (eliminate) Computer Skills & Applications P1. See the next slide.

  24. If you are presently taking Computer Skills & Applications P2, mark out (eliminate) Computer Skills & Applications P1 & P2. See the next slide.

  25. The third course listed, Exploring Business/ Marketing/Entrepreneurship, is described on page four of the “Your Guide To Middle School” booklet . Anyone may take this course.

  26. Now we will continue the process of elimination. Look at the next two courses listed, Exploring Life Skills P1 & P2.

  27. If you are taking Exploring Life Skills P1, or you took it in 6th grade, mark out (eliminate) Exploring Life Skills P1 on your card. See the next slide.

  28. If you are currently taking Exploring Life Skills P2, mark out (eliminate) Exploring Life Skills P1 & P2 on your card. See the next slide.

  29. The last course listed is Technological Systems. The description of this course is on page 4 of the “Your Guide To Middle School” booklet. Anyone may take this course.

  30. Now you are ready to completeyour card.Your Encore course choices should be numbered 1-6 in order of preference with number 1 being your first choice.

  31. Before you return your card, make sure that you: • Accurately complete the information on side one of the card. • On side two, have your Encore selections numbered 1-6 • Complete the online Encore course registration in your PowerSchool portal. • HAVE YOUR PARENTS SIGN YOUR CARD.

  32. If you have questions, bring your packet with your registration card and come by the Counseling Center.

  33. ** Remember ** Registration cards and online registration must be completed and returned by Friday, April 13th.
