  2. Adverbs • You have already learned some adverbs in French • Souvent = often • De temps en temps = from time to time • Rarement = rarely • Régulièrement = regularly • Today we will be learning how to form adverbs in French.

  3. ADVERBS • In English, many adverbs end in –ly • Quickly • Slowly • To form adverbs in French take the FEMININE FORM of the adjective and add –ment. • Sérieux -> sérieuse -> sérieusement • Adverbs in French are usually placed directly after the verb. • Les élèves travaillent sérieusement.

  4. EXAMPLES • Heureux • Heureusement • Timide • Timidement • Nous dansons heureusement. • We happily dance. • créatif • créativement

  5. IRREGULAR ADVERBS • The adjectives bon (good) and mauvais (bad) have irregular adverbs. • Bon -> bien (well) • Mauvias -> mal (badly) • EXAMPLES • Ma cousine joue bien au hockey. • My cousin plays hockey well. • She skis (does skiing) badly. • Elle fait mal du ski.
