In 2009, Kathleen Bruce, a Resource Teacher of the Deaf at the Kelston Deaf Education Centre, embarked on a sabbatical to the UK to explore innovative practices in deaf education. This experience included visits to various schools and service providers from Chorley to Camden, emphasizing the importance of communication, early language exposure, and parental involvement. Bruce’s insights on student responsibility, closing the achievement gap, and managing caseloads aim to enhance educational outcomes for deaf students. This presentation showcases the key themes and influential connections made during the sabbatical.
