Looking about for a used model is important for a consumer. You can face a problem while purchasing a used switch if the vendor has forgotten to reset his password. Fortunately, it's easy to retrieve the password on the turn. During the power-on, you may interrupt the boot sequence, then assign a new password. However, if this feature is disabled, only by agreeing to lose your old configuration will you be able to recover the password: in that case, the system configuration will be restored to factory settings. Be mindful that whilst the reset process is very uninvolved, the default returns to its factory state: all the configurations will be wiped out, and not just the old password! This procedure works only if you have the device physically accessed. Auto setup should be switched off. First, by unplugging its cord, power off your Cisco 2960 switch. Press and hold the "Mode" button while you reconnect the switch to the power source. On switches from Cisco 2960 this click is on the front of the unit, on the left side. The LED above the button would shift from amber to green after three seconds, and start blinking. You should hold the button down until the light stops blinking. Lets go of the button.   4. Obviously, this procedure should only be used if you don't care about the current configuration, because you will lose your configuration during the password recovery process! The original system is dubbed ".new." In those cases, this reset procedure can be handy when you need to move a switch from one network to another, or when a configuration has become too complex, and you'd want a new start. For Cisco 2960 switches the default password is "cisco" and the username is also "cisco." Now that you have retrieved your Cisco 2960 switch password successfully, don't leave it too long as a default. Hackers also know these default passwords, and may try to use them to access your device and change the settings of your network.
