  1. 2 Timothy 2:15 2 Salvation

  2. A Study of RULESand PRINCIPLESthat forms the basis of FAITH, BELIEF, or POLICYbased on the SCRIPTURE.

  3. OBJECTIVES • To Deliver the right kind of faith. • To Break down false doctrine. • To Stand up for what is right.

  4. Water Baptism

  5. Statement of faith . . . Water Baptism Water baptism is an essential part of New Testament salvation and not merely a symbolic ritual. It is part of entering into the kingdom of God (God's church, the bride of Christ), and therefore, it is not merely a part of local church membership. (See John 3:5; Galatians 3:27).

  6. . . . Mode of Baptism Water baptism is to be administered only by immersion. Paul said, "We are buried with him [Jesus Christ] by baptism (Romans 6:3-5; see Colossians 2:12), Jesus came up "out of the water" (Mark 1:10), and Philip and the eunuch went down "into the water" and came up "out of the water" (Acts 8:38-39).Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection are applied to our lives when we experience New Testament salvation: "Repent [death to sin], and be baptized [burial] every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost [resurrection]." (See Acts 2:38; Romans 6:1-7; 8:2).Sprinkling, pouring, or infant baptism of any kind cannot be substantiated by the Word of God, but are only human traditions.

  7. . . . Formula for Water Baptism The name in which baptism is administered is vitally important, and this name is Jesus. Jesus' last command to His disciples was, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" (Matthew 28:19). We should notice that He said name (singular) not names. As previously explained, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are not names of separate persons, but titles of positions held by God. Jesus is the only name given for our salvation. "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). Baptism must be in the Name of Jesus (Acts 2:38) because this is the fulfillment of Matthew 28:19.

  8. 3 Reasons Why Water Baptism is necessary to our Salvation..

  9. 1.Because JESUS COMMANDED IT. (Matt. 28:19) He commanded His disciples to baptize those whom they had taught. - Go..Preach.. Baptizeand Teach.

  10. 2. Because HIS DISCIPLES PREACHED IT AND APPLIED IT. (Acts 2:38) - 'Repent and be Baptized for the remission (forgiveness) of sins...'

  11. 3. Because EARLY CHRISTIANS ACCEPTED AND BELIEVED IT. Acts 2:41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. Acts 10:47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

  12. Water Baptism is a work of Faith. A manifestation of our belief on God’s plan of salvation. Not because we believe that it is the way of salvation but because it is part of the Gospel of Christ that must be obeyed to complete our salvation. • Luke 6:46 -47 "“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47 I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice.

  13. ISSUES ON WATER BAPTISM

  14. What About The Thief On The Cross? Lk 23:39-43

  15. Luke 23:39-43 (NIV1984) 39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!” 40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.[a]” 43 Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.”

  16. THE THIEF WAS SAVED • A. JESUS CERTAINLY HAD THE POWER TO SAVE HIM... • B. JESUS CLEARLY OFFERED HIM SALVATION... • II. THE THIEF WAS SAVED BEFORE BAPTISM WAS COMMANDED • A. THE THIEF WAS NEVER SUBJECT TO THIS BAPTISM... • III. THE THIEF WAS SAVED BEFORE THE NEW COVENANT BEGAN • A. THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT COVENANTS... • B. WE NOW LIVE UNDER THE NEW COVENANT...

  17. Wasn't Paul Sent To Preach, Not Baptize? 1Co 1:14-17

  18. 1 Corinthians 1:14-17 (NIV) 14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so no one can say that you were baptized in my name. 16 (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

  19. I. PAUL WAS ADDRESSING A PROBLEM AT CORINTH A. WITH THEIR ATTITUDE TOWARD PREACHERS... B. IT APPEARS RELATED TO WHO BAPTIZED THEM... C. WHICH IS WHY PAUL WAS GLAD HE PERSONALLY BAPTIZED FEW... II. PAUL'S PREACHING HAD RESULTED IN MANY BAPTISMS A. LUKE RECORDS PAUL'S WORK AT CORINTH... B. LUKE RECORDS THE SUCCESS OF PAUL'S PREACHING... III. PAUL'S WORDS DEMONSTRATE THE NECESSITY OF BAPTISM A. WERE YOU BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF PAUL ( 1:13) IV. PAUL WAS EMPHASIZING HIS ROLE AS AN APOSTLE A. PAUL WAS SENT TO PREACH, NOT BAPTIZE...

  20. Baptism for the Dead 1Cor. 15:29

  21. 1 Corinthians 15:29 (NIV) 29 Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them?

  22. Many Mormons are not aware that Paul never said Christians baptized for the dead. Those verses say they, not we. Nobody believes that baptism by proxy is just another Christian doctrine. Mormons teach that it is one of the most important things they can do today, because the water baptism (while alive or else dead) is an essential ordinance for salvation. According to Bible Exposition Commentary – it probably means “winning others for Christ, if there is no resurrection, why bother to witness and win others to Christ?”

  23. Salvation is by faith but not by Faith ONLY. Water Baptism is a work of Faith. We need Baptism not because we want to be saved but because God wants obedience for us to be SAVED. • Luke 6:46 -47 "“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?.......

  24. FAITH and WORKS according to the Scripture (James 2:20- 24) 20 You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? 21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend. 24 You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.

  25. Thank you… God bless us all!
