  1. How to Restore Foot and Ankle Health after Surgery Most of the foot & ankle surgery will not allow you moving for a couple of weeks. Usually, it takes up to 6 weeks of recovery time to heal it up. During this stage immobilization of leg is recommended that helps to speed up the recovery and also ensures that repair does not outspread. Apart from immobilization, there is a number of other precautions you must consider no matter whether it is a minor surgery or a major one. Guidelines for Post-Surgery What to do and what not to do after surgery:  Swelling is obvious after any type of foot surgery which you can minimize by keeping the legs raised as much as possible. The best way is to sit on the chair and elevate your foot on the table. It also makes you feel relaxed and comfortable too. If you notice blood dripping out of the bandage, you may strengthen the dressing by adding more bandage but do not remove the first-hand bandage. If bleeding still does not stop you should contact to the Best Foot Ankle Doctors. How severely you would feel the pain depends upon the criticality of the surgery, however it varies from patient to patient. Generally, prescription is given to the patient for pain relief medication before they leave the hospital. If you feel pain is unbearable, take medicine immediately. And if you are allergic to pain medication then prefer taking it along with food which will help to reduce the impact of side effect to maximum extent. Do everything possible to keep the wound free from contamination during the recovery period for e.g. keeping the repair part away from the contact of water and heat. If you notice unexpected swelling in your face and body due to allergic reactions, go to the emergency room right away. If your body experience a fever or shivering, and if the pain in the operated area seems to have increased unexpectedly, you must contact to your Miami Beach Foot and Ankle Doctor for immediate treatment. It happens hardly ever that the bandages split or may become too tight due to swelling, needed that the bandages be split be changed before the arranged appointment. To protect the surgical area against sweating and irritation, apply ice over the repair area for the first three days. But make sure you do not apply it directly onto your skin or you can use a plastic bag filled with ice and drape it slowly over the wound area covered with dressings.        These precautions will help you limit the wound manipulation and contamination which are quite common at an initial stage. After four to six weeks of a recovery period, you may consult your doctor to have a physical therapy which can help you bring back the same strength and flexibility in muscles which you had before. It also encourages motion and allows you to put full weight on the surgical area that is required to have no trouble with faster recovery.
