  3. Block-level replication Synchronous and Asynchronous IP Option to Volume Manager (& requires VM) Solaris, HP-UX, AIX & Windows 2000, 2003 FS on target not mounted Ideal for Database Replication Supported with MSCS, VCS and GCO File-based replication Asynchronous only Runs on any NTFS/FAT FS, no VM required Windows 2000, 2003, Storage Server Target FS mounted Ideal for Remote Office Data Protection Supported with MSCS only VERITAS Replication Technologies Storage ReplicatorRemote Office Data Protection Volume Manager Disaster Recovery over Fibre Channel Volume ReplicatorDisaster Recovery over IP Easy and Flexible: Scalable, scheduling, throttling, push install Easy and Robust: Maximum synchronous performance within SAN or MAN Extremely Robust: Network outage protection, Integration w/ VCS and GCM • Block-level replication • Synchronous Only • Requires Fibre Channel between sites • Solaris, HP-UX, AIX & Windows 2000, 2003, Linux • FS on target not mounted • Ideal for Database Replication • Supported with MSCS, VCS and GCO

  4. Storage ReplicatorPositioning • VERITAS Storage Replicator™ for Windows 2000, 2003 and Storage Server provides organizations the ability to protect their remote office data through real-time data replication. • Protect your remote office data: While most organizations invest heavily on protecting their headquarters data, the protection of remote office data is often overlooked. • Save money by reducing the need to invest in remote office hardware and administration: Organizations can save money and resources by consolidating backups from remote locations to a central site. VSR is tested and supported with BackupExec Open File Option. • Easy to Use and Manage: Storage Replicator is extremely easy to use and install and can be centrally managed from one GUI. All installation can be installed remotely. • Scalable: Storage Replicator can support virtually a limitless amount of servers

  5. Volume ManagerPositioning for Disaster Recovery • VERITAS Volume Manageris an easy-to-use, online storage management tool for heterogeneous enterprise environments. Volume Manager’s remote mirror capabilitycan mirror data between heterogeneous arrays over Fibre Channel and speed recovery time by making current data available immediately at an alternate location. • Metropolitan Area Disaster Recovery: Mirror data synchronously over Fibre Channel within a metropolitan area network • Management: Use same technology for storage management as well as remote mirroring • High Performing: VERITAS Volume Manager outperforms hardware replication

  6. Volume ReplicatorPositioning • VERITAS Volume Replicator reliably, efficiently and consistently replicates data to remote locations over any standard IP network for maximum business continuity. Volume Replicator provides a robust storage-independent disaster recovery solution when data loss and prolonged downtime cannot be tolerated. • Essential component for disaster recovery: Replication, an essential component for disaster recovery, provides the ability to duplicate an organization's critical data to a secondary location. VERITAS Volume Replicator, can replicate data over any distance across a standard IP network to 32 secondary locations, either synchronously or asynchronously, for maximum disaster protection. • Uncompromised data integrity in any mode: VERITAS Volume Replicator maintains data consistency within and among volumes to deliver uncompromised data integrity at secondary locations, whether operating in synchronous or asynchronous mode. • Unmatched site availability solution: VERITAS has a fully integrated solution that no hardware vendor or ISV can match which provides maximum availability with VERITAS Volume Manager, VERITAS Volume Replicator, VERITAS Cluster Server and VERITAS Global Cluster Manager.

  7. Common Questions when positioning VERITAS Replication Technologies • Why is Volume Manager a replication technology for disaster recovery over Fibre Channel? • Easy: Using the same technology to mirror within a datacenter, Volume Manager can be used to mirror data over Fibre Channel connectivity for SAN and MAN disaster recovery • Compete against Hardware Replication: Volume Manager should be the way to compete against any hardware based replication vendor since both technologies require Fibre Channel connectivity • High Performing: Volume Manager is much faster then hardware replication • Why is VVR the Disaster Recovery technology for IP Connectivity? • Data Consistency: VVR guarantees data consistency in synchronous and asynchronous mode • Robust: VVR is built to withstand network outages for an extended period of time • Wide-area failover: VVR is completely integrated with VCS and GCM • Why is VSR the technology for backup consolidation? • Since both VSR and backups are performed at the file level, VSR is the best choice for backup consolidation • VSR is easy to use • VSR has centralized management • VSR can be used to push software out to remote offices

  8. VERITAS Replication Technologiesfor Disaster Recovery • I am competing against a hardware replication technology for disaster recovery, which product do I recommend? • Does the customer have Fibre Channel connectivity? • If yes, position Volume Manager • If no, position Volume Replicator and highlight the fact that hardware replication does not support IP natively. Therefore, in order to replicate over IP hardware converter boxes must be purchased which are very expensive. • Is the customer looking to replicate beyond 100km? • If yes, position Volume Replicator. Volume Replicator has the ability to replicate in synchronous as well as asynchronous mode which allows organizations to replicate over any distance. • If no and they have Fibre Channel connectivity position Volume Manager • If no and they have IP connectivity position Volume Replicator • My customer does not want any application performance impact while replication is occurring, which product do I recommend? • Volume Replicator. Since Volume Replicator offers asynchronous replication mode replication can be occurring without any performance impact to the application

  9. VERITAS Replication Technologiesfor Windows • My customer wants a disaster recovery solution for Windows. Which product should I recommend? • VVR is the preferred product for disaster recovery • Is there any times when VSR should be recommended for disaster recovery? • Since VSR can replicate SQL and Exchange data there are some times when VSR is a better replication choice for Windows. • VSR should be recommended if: • The customer does not want a wide-area failover solution with complete integration with VCS and GCM • The customer wants an easy replication technology and is willing to tolerate more downtime and data loss than VVR
