Some data from the Netherlands for the PORCOSPINI project • The PORCOSPINI PROJECT is very important for the Netherlands because we had many problems recently and in the past with the sexual abuse of children • Most of the programmes focus on the professionals and policy measures but they never really focus on the children • The relevance of this approach is very important and most valuable Foundation Mundelnino, P.O.Box 3611, 1001 AK Amsterdam, the Netherlands +31 652 134 210

Information from the Netherlands • Sexual intimidation and harassment of children is mostly taking place when there is a difference in the power relations imbalance in power • Sexual violence has a juridical component it is a criminal act to impose sex on youth younger than16 and 12 years prison possible • A psychological aspect : forced sex due to the imbalance of power for the abused person • A sociological aspect of repression and families isolated and lack of means and knowledge Foundation Mundelnino, P.O.Box 3611, 1001 AK Amsterdam, the Netherlands +31 652 134 210

Data from the Netherlands • The wording sexual abuse means sexual forced acts without consentment • The statistics are not so reliable because children are ashamed and have fear • In 2004 : 6668 cases of sexual violence were reported to the police where 2687 were brought to court and only 1585 were proved guilty Foundation Mundelnino, P.O.Box 3611, 1001 AK Amsterdam, the Netherlands +31 652 134 210
