  2. Mi padre fue muy bueno: me donó su alegríaingenua; su ironíaamable: su risueño y apacible candor.¡Gran ofrenda la suya! Pero tú, madre mía,tú me hiciste el regalo de tu suave dolor.

  3. Tú pusiste en mi alma la enfermiza ternura,el anhelo nervioso e incansable de amar;las recónditas ansias de creer; la dulzurade sentir la belleza de la vida, y soñar.

  4. Del ósculo fecundo que se dieron dos seres-el gozoso y el triste- en una hora de amor,nació mi alma inarmónica; pero tú, madre, eresquien me ha dado el secreto de la paz interior.

  5. A merced de los vientos, como una barca rotava, doliente, el espíritu; desesperado, no.La placidez alegre poco a poco se agota;mas sobre la sonrisa que me dio el padre, brotade mis ojos la lágrima que la madre medio.
