  2. גן בוטני • גן בוטני הוא גן בו מגודלים צמחים בראש ובראשונה למטרות מחקר מדעי. גן כזה נבדל בדרך כלל מגנים אחרים הן במגוון הרחב מאוד של צמחים המגודלים בו, בשילוט המאפשר זיהוי קל של צמחים שדומה לשילוט בגן חיות וברמת הארגון של הגן הדומה לזו שבספרייה. גן בוטני עשוי לשמש, לצד מטרות המחקר, גם מגוון מטרות רחב כגון תיירות, חינוך וטיפולים פרא רפואיים בעזרת גידול צמחים.
