  3. Executive Summary • Moving into a new facility is an exciting time. Not knowing what’s in store for you can be a disaster, so here are a few tips on what to look for and anticipate. The moving process commences during design, so start thinking early on about all the things you’ll need to do. Assemble a team of your best people to lead the charge on your new facility. Make a plan of all the things to do and assign responsibilities with time requirements. Stay informed by attending regular meetings of the project; be actively involved to protect your interests. Watch the construction schedule for any slippage in key dates and get an understanding of the effect on the end date. When the project is nearing completion, look your construction team in the eye and demand a realistic assessment of making the scheduled date. Make sure that all District activities for the move are set up and coordinated with the construction schedule. Start the Punch List process as soon as areas are reasonably ready for inspection. There are many contractual procedures and documents to be submitted to finish the job legally, be guided by your architect or construction manager to get through it; they are experienced in these matters. Enjoy the new facility knowing that you’ve done all you could to make it the best.
