  3. Solutions to situations Situation Solution Check the number and the name of schools invited in the past years. Decide which schools to continue inviting and search for new schools to invite. One of the first things (After choosing the presidents) to do when the organization begins is call, send the invitation letters and motivate schools. Give them a deadline to confirm their assistance (2-3 months before the model). Explain them clearly how the model will work and what happens if they cancel beforetime. • Problems of communications with the schools- Lack of time to register and organize delegates. • Preparation of Rookies • Improve the Rookie workshop. • Make an easier to understand and more graphic Delegate handbook. • Prepare the presidents to train them • Give them more attention during the simulation.

Topics • First: Prevention and prosecution of genocide and crimes against humanity. • Second: Use of contraceptives in developing countries • Crisis: Due to the rise in premarital sexual activity in South African young adults or teenagers, the English NGO “Action Aid” has sent 18, 000 contraceptive vaccines for teenage girls, but due to the unsanitary conditions of the rural South African hospitals the half of the girls vaccinated with these contraceptives have been infected with HIV/AIDS.

  13. Topics • First: Maternal and child care access to incarcerated women • Second: Sexual violation of women and girls in armed conflict areas by peacekeeping armed forces.

Improving the Rookie Workshop! • Find a place in the north where we can also run the workshop if the schools from that area find it difficult to come to the CCB. • Print the Handbooks for that day. • Prepare a didactic video with the help of the presidents explaining the work of a commission and it’s procedure and organization, which will be shown at the start of the workshop. • Use the same organizational mechanism of last years. Each group will be composed by two couple of presidents and will have to explain a topic with the help of the video (if needed) , then an activity will follow, and if is that is not possible, a quiz.

Electing the presidents Requirements: • Experience. • Topics proposal and focus. • Parliamentary procedure and language knowledge. • Attitude: • Organizational skills • Leadership • Trustworthy • Good academic performance • Understand they are a Guide, not a whole AUTHORITY. • VERY GOOD LEVEL OF ENGLISH.

Ensuring the best standards for presidents • In the first application format it will be only necessary to explain 2 topics, with one crisis for each for one commission and one for the second option. • Recommendation from school teacher or sponsor. • Formulate questions about parliamentary procedure, commission management (problems and situations), organizational skills and compromise. • Accompaniment of a teacherduring the interview. • Preparation- workshops. • Support and advice from specialist teachers and sponsors.

Motivating the presidents! • Reminding them what our main goal is- Why are the MUN’s so important and why are they vital for CCBMUN development. • Explaining them the working plan and process • Giving them importance and making them feel they have made a great achievement. • REMEMBERING THEY ARE YOUNG PEOPLE. • Make use of the social media. • Have a personal, constant communication with them. • Taking them into account for decisions- Get them involved. • Creating a real team – planning fun meetings and social events. • Giving special attention to first-time and higher school commission presidents. • Being organized with them. • Planning the meetings in a place where everyine can meet. Giving them RECOGNITION and TRUST.

Job of the Secretary General • Individual ultimately in charged of ALL logistical matters at the conference. • Chooses Secretariat and presidential team. • Guides, accepts, suggest and improve the proposals given by the directive chairs for the topics. • Helps in the preparation of presidents and delegates. • Proposes and performs new changes and improvements made to the model. • Invites schools to participate and organize the logistical aspects of their participation. • Organize, plan and serves as host of ceremonies. • Delegate, help with and supervise tasks given to other members. • Check and modify the behavior, dress code, procedures, awards and recognitions given to the delegates

Creating or delivery welcome letters, program materials, and opening and closing ceremony speeches. • Reacting to last minute situations and give their best to solve obstacles. • Is the main spokesperson of the organization. • Hires the place where the conference will take place. • Is responsible for supervising the behavior code gets respected during the days of the model. • MAKES SURE THE MISSION AND VISSION OF THE CCBMUN IS FULLY ACCOMPLISHED AND PARTICIPANTS HAVE A GREAT EXPERIENCE!

  26. My plan to get them done? • Organize and plan in advance the timeline of tasks needed to be done. • Delegate with responsibility and trust staff members from the CCBMUN team, but push them to give their best. • Always have a backup plan, specially with suppliers. • Get informed

Involving more schools! • Define the communication and participation of schools as a priority and one of the first things needed to be done. • Invite in first place the schools that have attended last years and that have invited us to their models. • Promote the model through the web page and social media. • Look for specific new schools we want to invite. • Send the invitation letters, recommend the model( through audiovisual media) organize meetings, call constantly and if possible, visit those schools to show them our proposals. • Be organized with the inscription procedures to demonstrate we are a trustworthy organization. • Special grant for public schools*. • Try this year with a school from other country and give priority to schools from other cities- Help them with their trip to Cali.

  28. In conclusion… • Being a Secretary General requires: • Experience, passion, compromise, leadership, cooperation, creativity and responsibility.
