  1. Beaumont Hospital Psychology Department presents: Explaining the Unexplained: A Bio-Psychosocial Approach to Medically Unexplained Symptoms (MUS) A One-Day Conference Friday, August 28th 2015 Robert Adams Lecture Theatre Beaumont Hospital

  2. Overview of Conference Medically unexplained symptoms (MUS) or ‘functional’ symptoms are one of the most commonly encountered symptoms across all healthcare settings. One-third of patients presenting to hospital clinics have symptoms that are unexplained by organic disease. These symptoms are also responsible for a large proportion of disability in the workforce and decreased quality of life. They represent an important clinical phenomenon with considerable health and economic consequences. This full-day event will cover conceptual and diagnostic challenges and treatment approaches in the management of MUS. This is a CPD approved event and has been awarded 4 CPD credits by the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI). This is an opportunity for practitioners to hear from experienced clinicians from relevant disciplines including: Psychology, Psychiatry, Neurology, Physiotherapy and other allied health professionals – all of whom have expertise in working with MUS. This event will be of great value to a range of practitioners across primary, secondary and hospital-based healthcare including psychologists, allied health professionals and medical practitioners.
