  1. 3rd Annual Las Vegas Getaway Well friends, The kids are back in school, holidays are nearing and it’s that time again to start thinking about our Las Vegas Golfing Getaway. Yep, when your sweetie asks what do you want for Christmas this year, simply reply…..a box of golf balls and a kitchen pass for March. This will be our third annual trip and each year it continues to get better. Our first year was darn good (hard to improve on the Pauite Golf Course), our second jaunt was great (golfing & dinner), so this year, we are expecting…Awesome. Golf Date: Friday - March 7, 2008 Saturday – March 8, 2008 Place: Falcon Ridge Golf Club Wolf Creek Golf Club First Tee Time: 10:07 AM 9:00 AM You aren’t going to believe Wolf Creek! You gotta check out the website (details on page three). Golf Digest rates it in the top 10 for public courses, Golf Magazine rates it as the 22nd best public golf course in America. The USGA states, it is the third most difficult public golf course in the USA, and the slope rating of 154 from the back tees is just one point from the maximum rating ever given by the U.S. Golf Association. But, if that’s not enough, our very own local Lockheed Martin golf pro, Steve Olson states, “Wolf Creek is in my top ten of all of the courses I’ve played in the U.S. “…and a testimonial from George Williams (after going to the website): “OMG!!! What an Awesome course!!!  Definitely worth the trip back west.” In fact, I believe you can hear Mr. Barnes in the background saying, “Darn, I better take some golf lessons this year”…. So there you have it! Both of the golf courses are located near Mesquite, NV. There are four Hotel/Casinos in the area. The two nicest (and largest) are CasaBlanca and the Oasis. I have a block of 10 rooms reserved at the CasaBlanca Resort/Casino (Thursday 3/6 - $66 & Friday 3/7 - $99). Go online and decide (http://www.visitmesquite.com/mtourism/index.jsp) Here is the plan. Spend two nights and two days… lodging, gambling and golfing in Mesquite (80 mile NE of Las Vegas). After the second day of golfing (early start time), we will head south to Las Vegas. By popular demand, a group dinner is planned, at Yolie’s Brazilian Steakhouse (http://www.usmenuguide.com/yolies.html), followed by a night of fun on the Vegas Strip. You will need to select a Las Vegas hotel and make your own reservation for Saturday night as well. I will be staying at the Hilton – Las Vegas Strip. Once again as in years past, travel arrangements and hotel accommodations are up to you. Travel days for most folks will be Thursday (3/6/07) and Sunday (3/9/06)…again, that is your choice. Bottom line: Let’s have fun! If you have any questions, feel free to inquire, Lad Meairs Email: meairs2@comcast.net (home) or laddin.d.meairs@lmco.com (work) Phones: (925) 978-0170 (home) or (408) 756-7520 (work) or (925) 813-2465 (cell) Terms of Agreement: To get the group tee times and discounted rate of $295 total, per person, for both courses (a $40 savings), I had to sign a contract for a minimum of 16 golfers at both golf courses with a $500 non-refundable deposit. Last year we had a lot of folks cancel out on the last week, which made for a pretty stressful situation. Please make up your mind by January. I have to pay in full, 30 days prior to our scheduled dates (money due on February 7th). I need your official commitment and green fees by that date. If you need to wait and settle up in March, I can carry it on my credit card, but you will need to honor your commitment.

  2. Website: http://www.golffalcon.com Place: Falcon Ridge Golf Club Location: Mesquite, Nevada (77 miles NE of the Las Vegas) Date: Friday - March 7, 2008 Tee Time: 10:06 AM (first group) Price $110.00 Winding through the hills and canyons of Northwest Mesquite lays one of the most picturesque golf venues in all of Nevada, Falcon Ridge Golf Course. A hidden treasure awaits you. Nestled in southern Nevada’s Virgin Valley, the Falcon Ridge Golf Club features the very best in premier desert golf. With elevated tee shots from high plateaus, plush rolling fairways, and quick multi-tiered greens, Falcon Ridge Golf Club presents a challenge to players of all skill levels. The Falcon Ridge is spectacular in design and challenging in nature. The front nine presents some pretty golf holes, and the back nine is simply outstanding golf. Three sets of tees are utilized, with the tips measuring 6546 yards, the Silver tees 5976 yards, and the Gold ones at 4821 yards. Boulders are situated on either side of the fairway to indicate the 150 yard area. Bunkering is effective, and although water is not often in play – when it is, the environment is spectacular. The front side is much shorter and affords golfers with an opportunity to get off to a good start. The first couple of holes will require avoidance of canyon walls. On the next few holes the terrain becomes increasing undulating, with frequently elevated tee boxes directed towards narrow fairways with mounding, moguls and swales framing the landing zones. Golfers will also be confronted with challenging uphill tee shots and approaches. The back side features even greater elevation changes, a cascading stream that results from a beautifully landscaped waterfall situated atop the hill, elevated tee areas, gorgeous water hazards, unforgiving sand bunkers, and undulating or sloped greens.

  3. Website: www.golfwolfcreek.com Place: The Wolf Creek Golf Club Location: Mesquite, Nevada (77 miles NE of the Las Vegas) Date: Saturday - March 8, 2008 Tee Time: 9:00 AM (first group) Price $185.00 Wolf Creek is being acclaimed as the most spectacular new golf course in North America. The jewel in the Mesquite Crown of golfing excellence is Wolf Creek which was named by Golf Digest as one of the top three new upscale public courses in the United States. It winds up and down and all around some of the prettiest desert canyons anywhere. Elevation changes, beautiful vistas, conditioning - Wolf Creek has it all.  Imagine standing on a small patch of grass 11 stories high above the desert floor. You look around and see nothing but red-rock canyon walls, glistening waterfalls, and lush green fairways. That’s what it feels like to play golf at Wolf Creek Golf Resort in Mesquite, Nevada. Most resort courses have a signature hole that stands out as the most scenic. At Wolf Creek, a dozen holes could compete for that title. It could be the short par five fifth hole that requires a tee shot over a yawning canyon and a small creek, or the little par three eighth, with a green that nestles up against a sheer cliff and is surrounded by a creek on three sides, or even the eighteenth, with its amphitheater-style green framed by three waterfalls. Fourteen of its 18-holes have elevated tees. Depending on which tee box you use, the course ranges from 4,169 to 7,018 yards and requires spectacular shot making over canyons for a most memorable golfing experience. Wolf Creek is a spectacular course that appeals to all golfers by offering breathtaking views, an impeccably conditioned course and first-class amenities.
