  3. Key note: A therapist who views himself as responsible for helping the patient with every problem risks engendering or reinforcing dependence and deprives the patient of the opportunity to test and strength her skills.

  4. Make sure you tell the client that the skills are to be used FOREVER • What skills: • Be outcome oriented – breaking down big problems into manageable components; • Find alternative solutions to problems; • DTR; • Relaxation; • Identifying advantages and disadvantages

  5. Preparing for setbacks Make sure you tell your clients that it is EXPECTED

  6. List out the advantages and disadvantages for seeing less of you • Also, elicit your client’s automatic thoughts about terminiation.

  7. Self-therapy sessions Read pp.279 carefully
