The Spiritual Warfare • Who is Satan? • How Satan Works • How to overcome Satan
Who is Satan? • Satan is invisible but he is real. • We have a real foe, and we must fight or else? • When we fight in the name of Jesus we will certainly win-resist the devil, and he will flee
Who is Satan? 2. Satan’s nature and demons • According to Zondervan’s compact dictionary Satan means adversary. Satan is the chief of the fallen spirits. He is called devil, accuser, adversary, enemy of God, Beelzebub, Belial, deceiver of the whole world, the great dragon, the evil one, the father of lies, the murderer, god of this world, the old serpent, the prince of this world, prince of the powers of the air, the tempter. • Satan was created as an arch angel (Isaiah 14:12) • Satan employs demons and any means
Lucifer • Isaiah 14:12 “How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations.”
Demons-Unclean Sprits • Demon groupings: bitterness, rebellion, strife, control, retaliation, accusation, rejection, insecurity, jealousy, withdrawal, escape, passivity, depression, heaviness, worry, nervousness, sensitiveness, persecution, mental illness, schizophrenia, paranoia, confusion, doubt, indecision, self-deception, mind-binding, mind-idolatry, fears, fear of authority, pride, affectation, covetousness, perfection, competition, impatience, false burden, grief, fatigue, infirmity, death, inheritance, hyper-activity, cursing, addictive & compulsive, gluttony, self-accusation, guilt, sexual impurity, cults, occult, religious, spiritism, false religions. • Remember the greater number of God’s angels
Who is Satan? 3. Satan is Powerful but defeated • Genesis 3:15b says, “He will crush your head, and you will strike his heel”. • Satan is strong, but Christ is stronger who can bound Satan and free us. (Mk3:27) • Christ’s resurrection defeated the power of sin and death, and made Satan powerless. (1Co 15:55-56)
Mark 3:27 “In fact, no one can enter a strong man's house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can rob his house.”
Who is Satan 4. Satan is powerful, but limited (Job 1) • Satan wanted to afflict Job with God’s permision-He was not allowed to take Job’ s life. (Job1) • God tests and trains his people to overcome Satan’s work. Why do we have to fight enemies? (Joshua 1)-to be raised up as God’s mighty people who can serve God’s purpose. Satan cannot override God’s plan.
How does Satan work? • Satan works with lies. • Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44) • He does not come with 7 horns and red face. He comes as an angel of light (Gen3:5) • He performs miracles and signs as false prophets (Mt24:24) • Satan questioned the woman to plant doubt, twisted the word of God and told a lie.
How does Satan work? • Satan plants doubts • Satan caused the woman to doubt God’s love (Gen 3) Questioned God’s word and told a lie to seperate us from God. When we doubt God’s love and goodness we become vulnerable. • We must not doubt God’s love and his goodness in any situation.
Romans 8:39 • “Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
How does Satan work? 3. Satan destroys life • Satan caused man to sin and sin brought curse and death (Gen 3) • Satan is a murderer from the beginning (John 8:44) • Satan promted Judas Iscariot to betray Jesus, and kill himself
How does Satan work? • Satan tempts (Matthew 4) • Satan tempts us to disobey God • He tempts us to seek worldly glory • He tempts us to avoid the way of cross (Mark 8)-this was Satan’s persistent temptation.
How does Satan work? • Satan breaks relationships • He breaks our relationship with God (Gen 3, Luke 5) • He breaks our relationship with men (Luke 5) • Satan works to separate us from God
How Does Satan Work? • Satan tempts God’s people • Satan persecutes God’s people • Satan hinders God’s work
How to overcome Satan? • Know Satan’s work in end time • Test the spirits (1John4:1, 1John2:15-17) • Hold to the truth (Mt4:3,John8:32) • Put on the full armor of God (Eph6:11-18) • Jesus defeated Satan. Live with the authority of Jesus
How to overcome Satan? Satan’s work in end time (2The2:3-12) • Satan will be released in end-time (Rev20:3) • He opposes God, exalts himself to be worshiped with false teachings and counterfeit signs and wonder.(Jer23:31) • People become the lovers of self, money and pleasure (2Tim3:1-6) • He changes the set times and the laws (Dan7:25)
2Thes2:3-12 • 3Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for (that day will not come) until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. • 4He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God • 9The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, 10and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. • 11For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie
2 Tim 3:1-5 • 1But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.
How to overcome Satan? Put on the full armor of God (Eph6:11-18) • the belt of truth • the breastplate of righteousness • the gospel of peace. • the shield of faith • the helmet of salvation • the sword of the Spirit • pray in the Spirit • be alert
Eph 6:14-18 • 14Stand firm then, with the belt oftruth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
