  1. Post-Apocalyptic By Michael English

  2. Genre Post-apocalyptic films are based around what would happen if something had happened to the earth. There are many narratives that can be made for this type of genre e.g. weather (The day after tomorrow) ‘2004’, disease (28 days later) ‘2002’, technology and sometimes aliens (The day the earth stood still)’1951’. Post-apocalyptic films are based on the survive of one person or a group trying to fight for their lives and try and build a new society with what is left. In ‘The Road’ they have to move form the location that they are at to the sea front to survive. But in ‘The day after tomorrow’ they have to try and stay where they are to survive. This is the same genre but has two different narratives. It can also be able having to fight off the new society for example in ‘Planet of the apes’ they have to try and regain what is theirs from the new society (apes). This also happened in ‘I am legend’ when the actor Will Smith has to find I solution to change the new society back to normal

  3. Characters In post-Apocalyptic films characters are protrude as average people that can turn out to be special. Characters in post-apocalyptic films are normally trying to fight for their survival and have to come a cross with whatever they can find to survive. They will also try and build a new society so the existence of humanity can live on and increase form where it has left off. In ‘The Road’ the have to move form the location that they are at to the sea front to survive. But in ‘The day after tomorrow’ they have to try and stay where they are to survive. This is the same genre but has two different narratives.

  4. Location/ settings The locations and setting for post-apocalyptic film’s can be based anywhere because its about survival and how the earth has changed during the apocalyption and what the world looks like after. This gives films directors and producers a wide range of places to use, it can also mean that they can use CGI to make their own world and don’t have to find the perfect location! As you can by the screen shots of different films, that change has happened to the world and everything is different or not what we are use to. This can be shown by lack of population and barren waste lands and also can be shown by sown or a change of new buildings e.g. in ‘the day after tomorrow’ new York is covered in sown and in ‘The planet of the apes’ the Lincoln stature has been changed to a stature of an ape. .
