Background • Founded in 1989 • Serving expectant mothers in the Holy Land faced with an unanticipated or medically-at-risk pregnancy • Saving lives in the Holy Land for 20 years • Providing psychological, financial and medical support services • Helping families from more than 150 cities, villages and settlements in Israel • Over 12,000 babies born • Just One Life Center located in Jerusalem; Development Office located in NYC

Mission Statement To assist expectant mothers in crisis, who are experiencing emotional, medical, and/or financial difficulty that often accompany an unintended, untimely or medically at risk pregnancy. By providing professional counseling and financial assistance, Just One Life enables and empowers mothers to choose to continue their pregnancies to term.

Goals • Encouragement and Support of Childbirth: Address financial, emotional, and medical needs of the expectant mother • “Internal Aliyah” Addressing the Demographic Threat to Israel: Increase healthy births in Israel to ensure a strong Jewish state • Healthy Parenting: Help expectant mothers develop better skills for more healthy parenting • Self Empowerment: Assist mothers to increase self esteem and to be better equipped to handle the challenges of pregnancy and motherhood • Emotional Lifeline: Provide a nurturing and supportive environment for expectant mothers to address crises in their lives

Measuring Success • Over 12,000 babies born • Negligible number of “repeat customers” due to successful crisis management education • Over 100 clients turn to JOL each month for help • Client base growing at 10% per year • 100% retention; 0% adoption - demonstrates mothers’ satisfaction with their choice

A Novel Approach • Sensitively address the abortion issue facing thousands of mothers in the Holy Land by successfully meeting their emotional and material needs • Alleviate underlying stresses surrounding the expectant mother and her family • Work with countrywide network of certified Social Workers who refer to JOL • Provide support services during the months of pregnancy and beyond • Service is provided by professionals who are highly acclaimed within the academic and professional community of Social Workers • Hebrew University, Bar Ilan and Wurzweiller School of Social Work place training interns with JOL

Mother and Infant Center • Opened first site in 2006 on part time basis • Provides life skills, parenting skills, children’s health and nutrition education to help mother manage the challenges of pregnancy and motherhood • Strengthens the bond between the mother and her infant • Educates new and veteran mothers about child development and child care • Over 300 mothers and their infants have participated in programs and workshops • Participant Reviews: The programs enable clients to feel particularly "at home" with JOL staff, which enables learning and holistic change to occur

Case Study #1 • Name: Shoshana • Background: Ethiopian Immigrant, low income wage earner • Location: Jerusalem • Crisis: News of multiple pregnancy followed by loss of income due to lay off, leading to potential termination • JOL: Facilitates expert medical care, provides counseling & monthly stipend • Result: Mother and family joyfully welcome healthy triplets to the family

Case Study #2 • Name: Sara • Background: Native Israeli, low income wage earner • Location: Jerusalem • Crisis: Husband injured during terrorist attack has partial hearing loss and post traumatic stress preventing him from returning to work. Sara must care for two children and husband leading to doubts about continuing pregnancy. • JOL: Provides supportive counseling and monthly stipend • Result: Mother and family joyfully welcome new addition * Some details have been changed to protect the identity of the clients
