Stroud District Partnership2007 - Tim Withers Headteacher – Stroud High School & Chair of SDP since September, 2012
The SDP • Archway School • Katherine Lady Berkeley School • Maidenhill School • Marling School • Rednock School • The Shrubberies & St Rose’s • South Gloucs. & Stroud College • Stroud High School • Thomas Keble School
Diplomas • Diplomas: the initial glue of the partnership • Labour Government initiative – all students to have the offer of them • Funding available to synthesise our offer locally; some challenges of geography • Michael Gove – revoked this, 2010 • Whither the SDP?
The Changing Role of the Local Authority • Vast majority of Gloucestershire secondary schools are now academies • LA retain oversight of safeguarding for all schools • Current round of Ofsted LA inspections, with a new framework in development, to ascertain effectiveness in driving up standards • LA seen by Chief Inspector Michael Wilshaw as having a role to play in system leadership • Key players more likely to be school leaders, with LA coordination (National and Local Leaders of Education) • 18 ‘school-facing’ staff in Gloucestershire after current round of reductions
SDP since May 2010 • Forum for discussion/exchange on a variety of school matters • Representatives from the LA and elsewhere • Feeds into Gloucestershire Association of Secondary Heads (equivalent local area groups report back) • Shorter, more focussed meetings – early in the day • 3 scheduled for 2012 – 13
SDP • Most SDP secondary schools have worked to employ careers advisors through South Gloucestershire and Stroud College • Aspirant Senior Leadership course: in-house training for ambitious and able middle leaders • Last meeting: ALPS (A level target setting data), academy funding, SG & Stroud College capital development, Pupil Referral Service in local area
The Future • GASH – beginning the GO! Project – no secondary school in Gloucestershire less than good or outstanding • SDP contributing to this vision • Exchange of expertise • Middle leadership development? • Better liaison with other local organisations, and local government? • SDP voice heard more clearly locally
