  2. Hint for solving: A quick way to solve a rational equation is to multiply everything through by the LCD. This will get rid of all the fractions! Beware of extraneous solutions!

  3. Example: Solve. LCD: 2x Multiply each fraction through by the LCD Cross out duplicates to simplify Simplify by subtracting 6 from each side No Negative Variables! Divide by -1 Check your solution!

  4. Solve. LCD: ? LCD: (x+1) ? Check your solution! No Solution!

  5. What is the LCD? Multiply both sides of the equation by the LCD Simplify by cross – canceling Rewrite the expression Simplify by adding 3x to each side Divide each side by 4 to isolate the variable Check your answer √
