Study Rapping is an exciting profession, but just like any other it takes work to be the best. As a rapper, words are your outlet. The more you know about them and how to use them, the more longevity you have. • It’s a painful process, but worth it: • Read & Memorize the Dictionary. • Write everyday. • Watch & study the best artists of all time. • Know your hip hop history. • True musicians study the music business.
Self-Knowledge (Knowledge of Self) The best artists, even people, usually have knowledge of themselves. They know how they act, react, what they like, and don’t like. They don’t necessarily have their lives together, but they have a good grip on it. In order to give advice to someone else through knowledge in a rap, you have to have this and experience. [Careful, some people out there hate the fact that you’re doing well by knowing yourself.] (Envious)
Know What It Takes • Creativity • Sharp, Critical Thinking • Risk Taking • Genuine Presence • Storytelling Ability • Strong Team • Even Stronger Work Ethic • Faith/Determination Follow the rules and advice to end up like this: Or ignore the message and end up like this: Home
Flowing • In many ways, we experience flow. In every game you play, in every action you perform, and energy you put out, there is a natural flow. • How do I find my own flow? • It can be easy and hard. DON’T go stealing someone else’s flow. • Freestyle for Long Periods(Playing with Your Vocal Melody) • Create rhyme schemes and play with how several lines sound by holding syllables & stressing certain parts and/or changing tone of voice.
Flowing • Write rhymes ALL the time. • Freestyle as much as possible • (Make sure you THINK while you do it). • When you do this, you can include punch-lines in your freestyles. • When you’ve reached the spotlight & it’s your time to perform in front of others: • Always leave them with your best impression, don’t spit play around raps • Let people know you take the art serious • Have Showmanship, Confidence, and Bravado
Flowing Flow is about much more than it seems. Have an objective. In my rhymes, my objective is to come up with a great rhyme scheme and fit in as many words as possible in 16 bars that express myself honestly (so you understand me) or help you visualize the rollercoaster ride I’m taking you on. When You’ve Mastered The Art: Give Yourself a Hand Attention: It is important that you use good body language when “spitting a flow”. When you actually write rhymes it is important that you aren’t “corny”. You should compose your songs almost like movies, except your life.
Flowing You’re Trying To Make it HERE (without ignorance) Master Your Flow. Master Your Lyrical Abilities. Master Your Way with Words. Master Different Styles & Flows with Versatility. Memorize the Greatest Artist Songs & Rhyme schemes. Never Decrease Your Work Ethic, only Increase. Rap about different topics telling both sides of the story. Approach raps, how you would essay papers in English. Rap competitively & for Fun. Live a Hip-Hop Lifestyle. Be Yourself. Love. Home
FLAVA Image plays a big role in society! Use Your Imagination, Create Your Own.
FLAVA Flava, translated FLAVOR, in my opinion is simply your own originality and sense of taste that differentiates you . This doesn’t mean go do some outlandish style(i.e. be super dirty, wear dresses, etc.) Those with the most flavor become the biggest icons. Most things are a façade, but not a far-off façade. Study those who’ve had the most flavor. Express Yourself. Warning: You’re main focus shouldn’t be this above the others. This is the last step, and just apart of your person.
FLAVA Present Yourself Wisely. Be Seen. Maintain the image you send in your raps while being your genuine self. Have Heart. LISTEN! Do What You Set Out To Do
FLAVA It’s important that you know, these are NOT facts. This is what I see with my own two eyeballs. In conclusion, rapping is polished common sense at its highest level and the language our brain speaks. Keep it simple and be an innovator, not an imitator. Home
