  1. The Church Identity Crisis A “Seek Me First” Approach to Church Consulting

  2. How is your church trending? • How many pastors and ministries today are having an identity crisis? • How many denominations are struggling with core values and stereotyped identities?

  3. We have talked about technology and debated its use in the church but what about the use of business approaches to being about our Father’s business?

  4. Church consulting from a “Seek Ye First” perspective is about exposing the most intimate relational aspect of the church to God’s scrutiny and asking Him to direct us.

  5. What is the most intimate relational aspect of the church body? Its communication structure.

  6. Why Communication? • It is at this level that the vision becomes reality or fatality. • Whether large or small, mega or mini, we are seeing churches and ministries die on the vine.

  7. What Church consulting is NOT • Creating a successful business plan • Increasing attendance • Becoming the next Bill Johnson, Rick Warren or Benny Hinn • Making God move

  8. Consultation looks at whether or not the flow of communication in a church is enabling that church’s vision to flourish. Are we a OR A “fountain flowing trickle in the foyer?deep and wide”?

The Flow of Communication • If the flow of communication in a church is not enabling that church’s vision to flourish there is a communication leak. • A church consultant simply looks at the communication structure and identifies where the leaks are. • If God has placed the vision in our hearts and it isn’t happening, we can almost always trace it back to a breach in communication.

  10. Good speakers and even great preachers are not necessarily good communicators.

  11. com·mu·ni·ca·tion [ kemyoonikáysh'n ] • The most basic element of communication is that there must be both a sender and a receiver. • The word, communication comes from the Latin word "communis", meaning to share.

  12. A church consultant looks at the communication structure and identifies where the leaks are.

  13. What happens when there are leaks? • When there are leaks – the vision gets deflated. • Failed communication is the enemy’s venom that paralyses its victim before coming in for the kill.

  14. Regardless of how clever or well thought out your vision statement is, even if God has given it to you, if it hasn’t been communicated to the entire family or church body it will never be heard in the universal body of Christ, it will never come to pass.

  17. Church consultants are to churches what ghost busters are to haunted houses. They roust out the specters of vision killers. Those apparitions that run around with a pin for poking a hole in the vision and watching it deflate.

  18. Who does Church Consulting? • Someone who God has gifted for the purpose • Someone who has played the game

Who is a Church Consultant? • Someone who has spent his life co-creating a vision with God. • Someone whose every vision he has ever pursued has come straight from the heart of God to his. • Someone who has a God given desire to help others see their kingdom dreams realized. • Someone who has great faith for the fulfillment of the great commission.
