  1. 8th Grade TripWashington, D.C.May 3rd and 4thParent MeetingApril 25th

If you missed the meeting: • You must pick up 6 sheets from the Eastview Main office, and return 3 of them on or before Friday, April 27th in order to insure that your child can participate. • One piece of luggage for each child is to be dropped off with your child at school ON TUESDAY, MAY 2ndby 7:35 a.m. • All luggage will be inspected • All students are to be at EASTVIEW at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, MAY 3rd – with a small backpack, including breakfast for that morning. • Questions? judithplant@wpcsd.k12.ny.us

If you missed the meeting: • Leaders are: Joe Cloherty, Tarshia Holder, Judith Plant • Chaperones are: Mr. Sibrizzi, Mr. Francisco, Mr. Bergen, Mr. Sanchez, Ms. von Sauer, Ms. Weiss, Ms. Hodges, Ms. Pastore • Nurse: Ms. Dessner • There will be 3 buses, with 4 adults on each bus • Anyone with medication for their child must speak with Nurse Dessner.

  4. Itinerary: Thursday, May 3rd • Depart 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 3rd • Arrive Washington, lunch at Mall Food Court • Arlington National Cemetery, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Changing of the Guard, Kennedy Gravesites • White House (picture stop) • Lincoln/Korean/Vietnam/MLK Monuments • Dinner at Mall Food Court • Check in: Best Western Hotel (approx 8:30)

  5. Itinerary: Friday, May 4 • 6:30 Breakfast/7:15 depart hotel • 8:30 U.S. Capital – Meet with Lowey staff, inside tour of Capital Building and House of Representatives • Lunch at Union Station • Holocaust Museum Experience • Smithsonian Complex:1 – 2 Museums Air and Space/Natural History/American History • 3:30 pm Depart for White Plains – 9:00 pm

  6. Supervision • Co-Leaders: Joseph Cloherty, Tarshia Holder and Judy Plant • Eastview Teachers – Ratio of 1:12 • Nurse Dessner • World Strides Personnel • One tour guide on each bus • One night chaperone in each hallway through the night • World Strides Personnel at sites throughout city.

  7. Safety precautions… • Buddy system….. • Chaperone groups…

  8. Costs • Spending money • Meals: $8.00 coupons, bring breakfast and snacks on bus • Souvenirs: There will be an opportunity to purchase souvenirs • Water: Students are encouraged to bring a bottle that can be filled at water fountains, in lieu of purchasing bottled water all day.

  9. Expectations • Luggage will be dropped off at or before 7:35 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2nd. It will be inspected before we depart…. • All students must arrive on time • on Thursday morning at 6:00am. • All students will adhere to chaperone instructions

  10. What (not) to bring • Valuables are at risk! Cameras can be broken or lost! Chaperones are not responsible for student belongings! • Medicines should be brought in pharmacy container, placed in a zip-loc bag and given to the nurse. • Don’t over pack!

  11. What to wear and bring • Comfortable and school appropriate clothing • We will be WALKING A-LOT! Bring weather appropriate gear and comfy shoes!

  12. Consideration for others… • We are a large group – we need to be respectful of other hotel guests, and site visitors

  13. Rooming… • All students have been assigned to rooms • Almost all rooms have four students • We have tried hard to accommodate all student rooming requests • No changes can be made to rooming assignments from this point on • Assignments will be posted on 4/30

  14. Hotel Rooms… • Four students to a room • Only boys in boys rooms – at all times • Only girls in girls rooms – at all times • Quiet time from 10:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. • No internet/phone communication with others

  15. Punctuality… • Lateness can have serious consequences….. • Everyone can be Impacted by one late student… • Two students should shower at night, and 2 in the a.m.

  16. Cell phones and internet devices… • Will be collected at 10:00 p.m. on the 3rd, and returned at 6:00 a.m. on the 4th. • No student should be texting or making phone calls during site visits. • Cell phones are not allowed into some sites.
