  4. We want to help you save $$ while doing residency interviews!How can we do that?? The Help Our Students Travel (HOST) Program, coordinated by the Medicine Alumni Society, matches students with alumni volunteers who provide students with a free place to stay as well as offer invaluable advice about residency training, the prospective medical center and community in which they are interviewing.

  5. “During my interviews, I carried a sleeping bag with me and actually slept in city parks and behind airline ticket counters. We are more than happy to help any student who needs a place to stay during their travels.” Dr. David Warner (84R - Anesthesiology) Chapel Hill, NC

  6. “The HOST program is a wonderful resource for medical students. I had nothing but fabulous interactions with kind and generous hosts who gave a pleasant, personal touch to the long, busy and expensive interview trail.” -- 4th Year Medical Student Students save an average of $150-$200 -- hotel, car rentals, meals and other travel related expenses – per night. That’s equivalent to providing a $500 scholarship/grant to each student participant.

Plus, meeting Iowa’s outstanding students makes me very proud.” -- alumnus HOST Alumni have proven to be wonderful ambassadors. They have generously opened their homes, offered insights on the local community, shared interview advice and welcomed the visiting students into their families.

  8. We will accommodate your needs… *Many hosts welcome spouses to join you during your stay! *If you have allergies, we will find a pet free home for your stay!
