  1. ECONOMIC POLICY PROJECT HERBERT H. LEHMAN HIGH SCHOOL MS. KIM RYAN DELUCA

  2. THE PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT • You will be researching different economic issues. • You will pretend to be government officials that will examine and create new economic policies for your issues.

  3. THE ISSUES • AFFIRMATIVE ACTION • LOTTERY • UNEMPLOYMENT • POVERTY • WELFARE • SOCIAL SECURTY • MINIMUM WAGE

  4. THE TASK • You will be in a group of 4-5 students that will go step by step to complete the project. • The worksheets and information can be found in the TIPS website . • www.maxwell.syr.edu/plegal/TIPS.htm • You must work together with the group in order to complete the tasks.

  5. DEFINING THE SOCIAL ISSUE • You and your group will begin to develop an understanding of the issue. • You must also SELECT the area in which you will be studying.

  6. GATHERING THE EVIDENCE • You and your group will now begin to gather EVIDENCE. • This will supply you with your information you need. • You must RECORD the sites you used.

  7. IDENTIFYING THE CAUSES • In order to understand your economic issue, you must understand WHY it occurs. • You must find as many as you can that explain why the problem occurs. • You must supply FACTS and EVIDENCE to support you claims for the problem.

  8. EVALUATING EXISTING POLICIES • You must chose 1 of the existing policy to RESEARCH. • You then have to EVALUATE the positives and negatives of the policy. • You must use some facts.

  9. CREATING NEW POLICIES • You must now create 3 new or altered policies for your economic issues. • You must then choose the BEST out of the three that you feel best changes the issue for the BETTER

  10. SELECTING THE RIGHT POLICY • The LAST step is to the project is to evaluate each of your new policies. • FEASIBILITY-if the policy can actually be put into effect. • EFFECTIVENESS- that it will actually work.

  11. THE PROCESS • Everyone in the group is responsible for a particular part of the project. • Each role is essential to the creation of the finished project. • Each has an equal merit.

  12. THE ROLES • LEADER- Keeps people of track and responsible. • RESEARCHER-Responsible for organizing all research. • TECHNOLOGY- Creates the PowerPoint presentation. • PRESENTATION-will represent the group for their project.
