  2. CHILDHOOD •Derek Jeter was born June 26, 1974 in Pequannock, New Jersey. He was named after a famous hockey player named Derek Sanderson. • Derek’s mother, Dorothy is “Irish “ and his Father, Charles is “African American”. • Derek has one younger sister , her named Sharlee, she is 5 year younger then him. •At the age of 4, Jeter’s family moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan from New Jersey

  3. Education •Thru his elementary years, Derek was always a great student and very athletic. During his high school years, he attended Kalamazoo Central High School where he won several national sports awards , including…. “Player of the year” , “Athlete of the year. He even received a scholarship for the University of Michiganwhere he was drafted by the New York Yankees in June 1992 .

Career • 1992 - He was drafted by the New York Yankeeswhere he played his first “Minor Leagues “ • He was“Minor League player of the year” • 1995He got his first shot in the “Major Leagues”when Tony Fernandez was put on the disabled list . • 1996 Was Derek Jeter first full season as a Major League Baseball player. Batting 314 with 10 homeruns • Currently: Derek Jeter still plays baseball and on his 19th Seasons in Major League Baseball.

Achievements • His first Achievements was when he helped the Yankees win the World Series in 1996 and received “Rookie of the Year Award”for his performance that season. • 2000 – Derek Jeter was named “Most Valuable Player in the World Series and the All-Star games “ • 2004 & 2005 - He received the “Gold Glove Award “for his performance on the field. • Currently he is making 12 million dollars in a year.

  6. Hardship • As a child, Derek Jeter grew up facing racism. He was called names because of his African-American heritage. • Derek Jeter worked hard to reach his goals to make him who he is today.

  7. CharityOrganization Derek Jeter created the • “Turn 2 Foundation” . It was created to help children and teenagers avoid drugs and alcohol addiction. • This charity also supports students that earns high academic achievements ..
