  1. ROA 5th Edition Conference Calls

  2. OEC 5TH ED • OEC Skills on page XII-must be comfortable with these skills. CPI’s on the credentialing evaluation. It is not mandatory to use skill list sign offs. Excellent teaching tool. • Lay out of the book-Stop, Review and Understand. Workbook exercises. • Patient Assessment presented in the same way as the healthcare system. • Expanded role-pulse oximeters, assisting with meds (epi trainers), tourniquets as well as bandaging and splinting.

  3. OEC 5TH ED • Chapter 36-in NOT part of the OEC curriculum and can be taught only by personnel with advanced training after receiving approval from management and the patrol’s medical director and in compliance with state and local regulations. • MyNSPkit-web based tools available for instructors and students. Encourage all to use. Especially IORs. • Refresher Instructor Guide has been sent and available on line.

  4. OEC 5TH ED • Orientation Exercise on NSP website under Education Tools. Suggested study guide for refreshers. All areas will use as a tool for updating on the 5th edition. This is not mandatory or required, but an excellent resource. • E-Pointers is available under instructor resources. • 4th and 5th editions pdf comparisons • Submit errors to Kathy & Karen. Sending master list to National from Central Division.

  5. OEC 5TH ED • If someone needs a code for the myNSPkit they should not call customer service. They should call you and you can contact Kathy or me. • All instructors need to demo the 16 new/updated skills to an OEC IT before teaching. The instructor refresher would be an ideal time. Difficult to do at a recert clinic however the skills update will count as a recert clinic this year.

  6. OEC 5TH ED • Evidence-based medicine. Aims to apply the best available evidence gained from the scientific method to clinical decision making. Studies range from meta analysis, systematic reviews and double blind studies. • Standard of Training-the training of NSP OEC Technicians as set forth in the OEC course using the 5th edition.(P21)

  7. OEC 5TH ED • Standard of Care-a level of care an OEC Technician must render based on OEC training, local medical protocols, and the requirements of a state’s emergency medical system. (P 21) • OEC Enhancement Seminars are on line in the myNSPkit. The complete instructor manual is available with excellent PowerPoint's and videos.

  8. OEC 5TH ED • The 5th edition meets and/or exceeds the EMR (first responder) but not to exceed the EMT level. That is why we address nerve agents, more childbirth, HAZMAT, expanded triage, etc. We must meet the DOT National Standards. (p 39) • We need to be comfortable with the 5th edition as well as the myNSPkit. • Coursesmart is an excellent resource to search for particular references.

  9. OEC 5TH ED • National P & P Code of Conduct-members will display a positive attitude, good judgment, respect for the law, diplomacy, honesty, integrity and courtesy when dealing with fellow members, candidates, ski area employees, public lands administrators, members of other organizations and the public.

  10. OEC 5TH ED • ITs need to observe instructors performing the new skills. ITs are the quality assurance person. Skill sheets do not have to be signed. IOR decision. • We will not be using tests with grading for refreshers, recerts, clinics, etc. The only permissible evaluations come from National e.g. Basic evaluation.
