This feasibility study analyzes the potential construction of the Knik Arm Bridge, assessing economic viability, environmental impact, and traffic flow improvements for commuters between the Matanuska Valley and Anchorage. With over 10,000 residents commuting along the Glenn Highway, which sees substantial traffic and accidents, this study presents research methods including census data, accident documentation, and public surveys. Findings indicate that the bridge is economically feasible and environmentally sustainable, offering a vital alternative transportation route. Recommendations for further research and funding are also provided.

Constructing the Knik Arm Bridge A Feasibility Study ENGL 212 Technical Writing John Fuller
Overview • Introduction • Criteria • Methods • Research Results • Conclusion • Recommendations
Introduction • The purpose of the study was to determine if building the bridge would be economically feasible, if it could be built with minimal environmental impact, if the bridge would relieve the traffic flow along the Glenn Highway, and would people use the bridge to commute back and forth. • More than 10,000 residents of the Matanuska Valley commute into Anchorage by driving the Glenn Highway • Glenn Highway is the only route • recorded nearly 2,000 vehicle accidents between Boniface Parkway and the Knik River.
Criteria • Is it possible to build the bridge with minimum environmental impact? • Is it economically affordable to build the bridge? • Will the bridge relieve traffic flow along the Glenn Highway? • Will commuters use the bridge to commute back and forth from Anchorage to the Matanuska Valley?
Methods • number of people that commute back in forth using the Glenn Highway • current population for the Matanuska Valley area according to the 2010 census. • information documenting the amount of accidents along the Glenn Highway • Municipality of Anchorage website and found the 2035 Metropolitan Transportation Plan for the city of Anchorage • online questionnaire to be taken by students in the English 212 class. • research using the UAA/APU Consortium Library main website • journal articles and government documents
Conclusion • The construction of the bridge is economically feasible. • The bridge can be constructed with minimal impact to the environment. • The bridge would relieve traffic off of the Glenn Highway • provide an alternative route to and from Anchorage from the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. • People would us the bridge
Recommendations • More research • More public outreach • Find an alternative funding • Start the construction of bridge
