All Washington public high school graduates must fulfill the following four statewide requirements as determined by the State Board of Education: Earn a Certificate of Academic Achievement Earn THS’s designated 22 credits Craft a High School and Beyond Plan: 4YP Complete a Culminating Project: THS Senior Portfolio Washington State Graduation Requirements

Graduation Requirement: CAACertificate of Academic Achievement The CAA is earned by meeting standard on Washington State assessments (see below) for reading, writing, math, and science or through an approved CAA Option. • High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE): high school version of the MSP. HSPE required exams currently include: reading and writing. • End of Course Exam (EOC): replaced the HSPE assessment for math and science and required for high school graduation. Current EOC requirements include: Algebra 1, Geometry, and Biology.

Graduation Requirement:22 Minimum Credits (24 possible) Tumwater High School Requirements • 4.0 English • 3.0 Social Studies • 3.0 Math • 2.0 Science • 1.0 Fine Arts • 1.0 CTE* • 1.0 Fine Arts /CTE* • .50 Health • 1.5 PE • 6.0 Electives *Career or Technical Education; also known as occupational courses

Graduation Requirement:High School and Beyond Plan • Students begin to draft their High School and Beyond plan in the 8th grade. • Students monitor academic progress with guidance from counselors/teachers/parents and reevaluate/revise their High School and Beyond Planning Sheet to meet high school graduation and post-secondary requirements. • Students identify a desired career path (from LA career exploration project) and the educational and/or training options required for that career path. (e.g. 2-4 year college, vocational or technical training, certificate program, apprenticeship, internship, military service or the workforce)

  11. Your Plan………………Social Studies Pacific Northwest History graduation requirement may have been met in 8th grade at BMS. If so, it will be recorded under Education Milestones in skyward. If you did not take PNW at BMS in 8th grade, but completed PNW at another Washington State middle school, let your school counselor know (Name of school, City, and grade level completed). If you have not completed PNW in middle school, you will need to include PNW into your Four Year Plan (Learning Lab at THS or independent study/online course/summer school).

Your Plan……………………Electives 6.0 elective credits required (In addition to Fine Art, Occupational Ed., and PE/Health requirements) • Electives should help you access/achieveyour educational and career goals after high school. • Most colleges require more than the THS minimum graduation requirements… specifically for World Language, Science, and Math. • THS offers Japanese, French, Spanish. • Only Japanese is open to 9th graders.

College Credit Options at THS Advanced Placement (AP) Classes (10th-12th grades) A College Bound program of college-level courses and exams that gives high school students an opportunity to take an additional exam to earn college credit. THS offers the following AP courses: • AP Junior English • AP Senior English • AP Studio Art 2-D Design/Digital Communications 2 • AP Biology • AP World History • AP U.S. History • AP Gov/Politics • AP Calculus Tech Prep (9th-12th grades) Earn college credit from SPSCC for some THS identified courses (Example: Computer Apps., Accounting, Intro. to Business) Running Start (11th-12th grades) Allows high school juniors and seniors to take college classes at a community college campus to earn both high school and college credits. Tuition is free, but high school students are required to cover books and any other necessary supply or fee. Potential to earn an Associates Degree from the community college in addition to a THS Diploma. New Market Vocational Skills Center (11th-12th grades)Allows high school juniors and seniors to take specific classes toward career certification in 20 different programs.

  17. Next Steps: Keep your High School & Beyond Plan (4YP) draft in homeroom for completion on March 22nd. Make sure your name is clearly printed and that you have identified your LA teacher and LA period. You will take a copy home to review with your parents/guardians on April12th. You will use this planning sheet to complete the Freshman Pre-Registration (to be distributed by THS in Language Arts classes on April 16th.) You will register for freshman classes on April 19th.

  19. Questions? At this time, you are working on the first draft of your Four Year Plan (part of your High School and Beyond Plan). You will use your Four Year Plan to select your Freshman classes after Spring Break. The Four Year Plan is a work in progress and should be revisited (revised, if needed) every semester throughout high school. Please make an appointment with Ms. KB and Ms. Rakevich if you need more assistance with your Four Year Plan!
