  3. Therapeutic indications • Aerius is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with : • Allergic rhinitis • Urticaria • In patients with allergic rhinitis , aerius is effective in relieving symptoms such as sneezing ,nasal discharge and itching ,as well as ocular itching ,tearing and redness , and itching of palate

Methods of adminstration • Adults and adolescents (12 years of age and over ) : one tablet once a day for the relife of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis including intermittent and • persistent allergic rhinitis • In the case of intermitted allergic rhinitis treatment could be disontinued after symptoms are resolved and reinitiated upon their reappearance • In the presistent allergic rhinitis ,continued treatment mybe proposed to the patient during allergic exposure periods

Pharmacodynamic properties • Pharmachotherapeutic group : antihistamine – H1 antagonist • Desloratidine is a non –sedating ,long –acting histamine antagonist with selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist activity .after oral غ • administraion,desloratidine selectively blocks periperal histamine H1 receptor because the substance • is excluded from entry to central nervous system • Desloratidine does not readily penetrate the central nervous system • In clinical pharmacology trials ,co-administration with alcohol did not increase the alcohol-induced impairment in performance or increased sleepiness

  6. Pharmacokinetic properties • Desloratidine plasma concentraitions can be detected within 30 min of admiminstration • And it’s well absorbed with max concentraition achieved after approx 3 hrs • The terminal phase half life is approx 27 hres • The bioavailability is dose proportional over range of 5mg to 20 mg • Elimination of the drug : fecal and renal elimination

  7. Contraindication and undesirable effects Hybersensivity to the substance,to any excipients,or to loratidine In the case of sever renal insufficiency ,aerius should be used with caution Undesirable effects: The most frequent adverse events reported in excess of placebo were fatigue ,dry mouth ,and headache . Other undesirable effects reported very rarely : dizziness ,tachycardia ,palpitation,vomiting,diarrhea ,malagia …….

  8. Drug-drug interaction no clinically relevant interaction ere observed in clinical trails with deloratadine tablets in which erythromycine or ketoconazole were co-administrated In clinical pharamacological trials aerius taken concomitantly with alcohol did not potentiate the performance imparing effect of alcohol
