  2. TORCH History • Formed over 15 years ago by groups out of Nashville, TN • Primary purpose was to learn about short-term mission work in Central America • Hurricane Mitch devastated Honduras in the late 90’s, but provided a valuable opportunity for TORCH to grow

  3. Purpose • We want you to… • Experience life in a third world country • Consider the opportunities God presents to you through missions • Grow closer to God and fellow Christians throughout the world • Learn what it means to be a servant of Christ

  4. What We Do • Build homes • Distribute clothing and food • Worship • Teach • Have fun!

  5. Who Can Go? • Youth members entering 9th grade and above • College students • Adult individuals • Medical professionals • Couples • Families

  6. Cost Breakdown • Total cost for each member: $1500 (+$150 for work fund) • $100-$200 additional spending money is recommended per person • Group fundraising will play an important part in providing us with the money we need to go • God will provide!

  7. What do I do if I want to go? • EVERYONE: • Complete the application • Attach a recent and clear profile picture • Write a short essay explaining why you want to go • Pay $125 deposit (make checks out to Alameda Church of Christ, Your Name – Torch in memo line)

  8. What do I do if I want to go? • In addition, STUDENTS (w/o accompanying parent): • Have a parent complete the parent consent form (Spanish version only) • Get a letter of recommendation from a church leader/minister

  9. What do I do if I want to go? • Turn all money and paperwork into Amber Mullinax by December 5th, 2010 • NO EXCEPTIONS to the deadline!!

  10. What do I do if I can’t go? • You can still help! • Provide food for meal fundraisers • Volunteer time to help during fundraising events • Collect items for church-wide yard sale • Give financial support • PRAY

  11. What’s Next? • Consider and pray • Return application packet to Amber • Look for announcements regarding upcoming meetings • BE EXCITED!!
