Hurtful words can affect you • Hurtful words can affect you positively and negatively • A child who is called stupid may feel less confident in society • According to textbook, words name experiences, share attitudes and define our identities • I developed an aggressive attitude as a child because I discriminated against because of my weight • My aunt is bi-racial and was often called names like half breed and Oreo. These words made her develop identity issues.

  4. Recognize and Change • Recognize the affects that the words you say have on others and make the choice to change it. • The next time you are about to say something hurtful, think about what I’ve told you and find a better way to express yourself.
