I am Mary Todd Lincoln • First Lady of the United States • Wife of Abraham Lincoln • My height is 5’2 • Lived in Kentucky before marrying Abraham Lincoln • I loved to spend money and a lot of people criticize me for it. • Much sorrow came from my years at the White house after the deaths of my sons (except Tad) and Mr. Lincoln.

  3. Union General Ulysses S. Grant • By the end of War, I was promoted to General of the Army. • Following the War, I was elected President of the United States, serving from 1869 to 1877. • I wanted to make sure my memoirs were completed so my family would have something of value before I died. • On July 23, 1885, I died of throat cancer at my home in Mount McGregor, New York, four days after completing my Memoirs.

  4. I am Robert E. Lee • Politically, I was a Whig and had no strong sympathy for slavery. I believed strongly in our Constitution. • I was appointed Brigadier General in the Regular Confederate Army. • On April 9, 1865, I surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant at the village of Appomattox Court House. • I died on October 12, 1870. I am buried at Lexington, Virginia.

I am Belle Boyd • I am one of the most famous Confederate spies. • I operated spying operations from my father’s hotel in Front Royal, providing valuable information to Generals Turner Ashby and "Stonewall" Jackson during the spring 1862 campaign in the Valley. • Betrayed by my friend, I was arrested on July 29, 1862, and held for a month in the Old Capitol Prison in Washington. Exchanged a month later, I was in exile with relatives for a time but was again arrested in June 1863 while on a visit to Martinsburg. • Later I moved to Europe and became a stage actress telling people the story of my life.

Yes, I am Abraham Lincoln • I was elected to the Illinois State Legislature first in 1834 at the age of 28, and again in 1836, 1838, and 1840. • I spoke out against the Dred Scott Decision. • On November 6th I was elected president over three opponents (Stephen Douglas, John Breckenridge, and John Bell) winning 39% of the popular vote but nearly 60% of the electoral vote. Mary and I rented our home for $350 a year and sold most of our furniture. L.L. Tildon of Chicago purchased much of the furniture, and it was destroyed in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.
