  1. REGISTRATION UPDATE FOR 2009 Jill Parker

  2. ON TRACK • We now have 69 ‘Registered Technicians’ on the NZSSA roll

  3. ‘Registration Roll’ In 2008 we had a lot of feed back from ‘Steam Meetings’ on the criteria, cost and other issues.

  4. Questions and Feedback from around the country from 2008 • Why original copies of certificates? • Why do we need to be a member of the NZSSA to apply for ‘registration’? • Can the NZSSA put more information on the Web site. E.g. List of requirements for Portfolios, CV templates etc.

  5. Questions and Feedback from around the country.. • A great idea but why so long? • Is it going to cost more for our Annual Sub?

  6. SOME ANSWERS • Now we will accept photo copies of your original certificates. But the originals must be sighted by your Manager, and the photo copies signed as verification.

  7. ANSWERS… • You must belong to the NZSSA as there has to be a body over seeing and holding the roll of ‘Registered Technicians’. The roll also needs to be updated every 12 months.

  8. WHY SHOULD THE NZSSA HOLD THE ROLL ? • Who knows who the professionals are? • Who promotes education amongst it members? • Who provides annual conferences? • Who provides a regular magazine to keep members up to date? • Who encourages the best work practice amongst all members?

  9. ANSWERS… THE WEB SITE will be up dated or links will be provided with information that has been requested. e.g. Templates of CV's & Portfolios A list of all current ‘registered’ technicians will also be held on the web site. This will be amended as required.

  10. Answers… • The 2 full years gives members a chance to gain their CE hours. Some technicians do not get to conferences or steam meetings.

  11. Answers… • The Annual Subscription may well go up in time but it is still one of the cheapest around. These range from $30.00 - > $400

  12. Bonus!!!! • If we do become regulated under the HPCA Act most DHB’s will reimburse fees. Some DHB’s are already doing so.

  13. REMEMBERIt’s not that hard • Cost - $0 (just your normal NZSSA fee) You must belong to the NZSSA • 40 hours practice • 20 hours education

  14. WHAT CAN YOU USE FOR ‘CE’ HOURS • Conference • In service by suppliers • In-house in-service • Steam meetings • Presenting!

  15. THE REASONS FOR APPLICATIONS BEING TURNED DOWN • Not enough education hours. • Applicants used education hours back more than 2 years prior to application. • Applicants did not apply at the correct time. APPLICATIONS WILL ONLY BE RECEIVED BETWEEN THE 14TH JANUARY – 25TH FEBRUARY EACH YEAR.

  16. If at first you don’t succeed… • Resubmit • Questions: Jill Parker for North Islandapplicants. Or Aileen Derby for South Island applicants.

  17. IT’S OUR PROFESSION, OUR FUTURE • We are now in a world of accountability • We are responsible for our actions, and the effect these actions may have on the patients that are undergoing procedures in our Hospitals.

  18. IT’S OUR PROFESSION, OUR FUTURE • Respect is earned, not given. So as a profession we must work hard to ensure that we have that respect from our peers and patients.

  19. Moving Forward for allWhat we want to happen for you our members • The MOH (Ministry of Health) to recognize the profession as needing to be regulated under the HPCA Act 2003 • In doing so the Ministry will ensure that we have standing in Health Care. • DHB’s will also then give our profession the recognition.

  20. REMEMBER WHAT THE NZSSA DOES FOR YOU!!!! • ‘Web Site’ • ‘Supplyline’ • Annual Conference • Education • Projects to further our profession in Healthcare • Guidelines • Management of the Registration Roll

  21. NZSSA…. • This work is not always seen, but I can assure you it is going on… • Your Executive members do this work (unpaid) for you the members

  22. SO GET REGISTERED, SUPPORT THE NZSSA!! • Please support the NZSSA and become a ‘registered technician’.

  23. THE PATIENT NEEDS US WE NEED REGISTRATION AND REGULATION
